NEW YORK (AP) — Two ski-masked bandits
surprised three wealthy guests at the Hotel Pierre
, early today and robbed them of more than $1 mil-
. lion in cash and jewelry, police said
e The victims, two men described as government
real estate agents from Saudia Arabia and Syria,
and a New York woman had been discussing a real
estate deal over dinner, police said.
Later they stopped at Regine’s, an East Side dis-
cotheque, for a drink and then went to the hotel at
12:10 a.m. to pick up some papers in Room 1419
where Ala Alphadili, 29, of Saudi Arabia, was reg-
istered.
The bandits, both armed with handguns, were
already in the room that showed no sign of forced
entry, police said.
Deputy police commissioner Alice MeGillion
commented: "Apparently they had some informa-
tion — some good information.”
The bandits handcuffed the three victims indivi-
dually, put pillow cases over their heads and
forced them to lie on the bed during the robbery,
she said.
Alphadill told police he was robbed of $60,000 in
cash. Abdul Soria, 45, of Syria, said he lost $20,000
in cash.
The woman, Mrs. A.G. Lagerwall, said they took
a diamond-and-sapphire necklace that included a
62-carat diamond as its centerpiece, plus match-
ing earrings and a bracelet.
Mrs. Lagerwall, in her late 50s, lives at the lux-
ury hotel that overlooks Central Park at Fifth
Avenue and East 61st Street. The two men were
registered ss guests there.
