Unit Regulation
Caucus Binds Republicans
To Operate As Bloc In
Next Session
Oklahoma City — Republican
members of the house of represen-
tatives bound themselves to ope-
rate as a bloc under the unit rule
in their organization at an execu-
tive caucus at the Skirvin hotel
Monday
And it generally is understood
from reports of the meeting that
republican house members hold-
ing the big sway of power be-
tween the factions of the major
democratic party will go down the
line together in voting on mat-
ters of import during the coming
session of the legislature which
promises to be a turbulent one
Observers believe the unit rule
spells no good omen for the pres-
ent state highway commission and
the administration of Governor
Johnston generally
The action of the republicans is
seen as more joy to the anti-ad-minstration
democrats of - the
house than those democrats fav-
oring the administration as the
republicans have 47 members to
57 democrats
And while possible impeachment
of Governor Johnston and digging
investigations into the highway
and other departments of state
were not discussed it was sensed
that the powers within the repub-
lican organization hold little brief
for the governor and his admin-
istration Soon after the meeting was
called to order by L C Maxwell
Tulsa county representative v£ho
issued the caucus call it was
made a joint meeting of senators
and representatives Thirty-seven
republican representatives and 7
of the 12 republican senators par-
ticipated ' - )
Neither body organized to se-
lect a minority floor leader but
indications were that Eldon ‘ E
Sams of Nowata county left thb
meeting favored to lead the re-
publicans on the house floor j
