Bengals got a cheapie on a 15
yard drive after the game was all
but over.
For one half, though, the out-
come was much in doubt. Okla-
homa struck first when they took
the opening kickoff and Owens
drove 60 yards for a touchdown.
Actually. Steve only carried the
ball nine times in the 12 plays
as Warmack ran twice for eight
yards and tossed a 36 yard pass
to Hinton.
Owens capped the drive by di-
ving two yards for the score and
Bruce Derr added the extra
point to make it 7-0 with 9:54
left in the opening quarter.

Missouri pulled within one
point when they drove 66 yards
in the second period to score on
a five yard pass from Jon Stag-
gers to Chuck Weber.
The half ended with OU cling-
ing to the 7-6 advantage but the
Sooners soon expanded on that
margin. After the teams traded
punts for awhile to start the
third period, Oklahoma got the
ball on their own 45 and eight
plays later Owens slashed over
guard for a one yard touchdown.

Sooners Big Conference Win 'Bowls Over Mizzou
By MIKE SOWELL
Sports Editor
For awhile Saturday it looked
like Oklahoma wasn't going to
let anyone go to a bowl game this
year. The Sooners damaged Kan-
sas’ Orange Bowl hopes by ed-
ging the Jayhawks a week ago
and then turned around and
knocked Missouri out of the Su-
gar Bowl by downing the Tigers,
28-14.
But just when it looked like
Oklahoma had hopelessly mess-
ed up the bowl picture the Soon-
ers received an invitation to the
Bluebonnet Bowl, Kansas was
asked to the Orange Bowl any-
way and Missouri is headed to
the Gator Bowl.
Although the Sooners are only
5-3 on the year, this marked the
second week in a row that they
knocked off a top ten team and
they are finally playing like ev-
eryone had expected them to be-
fore the season started.
"Again this was a display of a
very fine team effort to win,”
Coach Fairbanks said afterwards.
"I don't think that our wins over
Kansas and Missouri were
flukes."
Saturday a crowd of over
60,000 was present in Steve O-
wens Field to watch the Sooners
make shambles of the highly
touted Missouri defense.
Oklahoma’s game plan, as us-
ual, was to give the ball to O-
wens and dare the Tigers to do
something about it. And Mizzou,
which had the top defense in the
Big Eight, could do no better
than hold Steve to 177 yards in
in 46 rushes and three touch-
downs.
Owens also completed one pass,
a wobbly effort that Eddie Hin-
ton caught for a nine yard touch-
down.
But this was far from being a
one man show. Bobby Warmack,
Mike Harper and Hinton all turn-
ed in good performances, aided
in part by the outstanding play of
the offensive line.
"If there was one particular
thing we did better than any o-
ther, it would have to be the
play of our offensive line,” Fair-
banks said. "It was the best per-
formance by our line in the past
two years and it allowed us to
move the ball much better than
we ever have against Missouri."
It also allowed Warmack to
complete six of nine passes for
105 yards and Harper to run for
51 yards in seven carries. Hin-
ton chipped in with three pass
receptions for 56 yards and 32
yards rushing in three tries.
Defensively the Sooners held
Missouri to a lone touchdown un-
til late in the game when the
Emphasis will be placed on maturity, communication skills, and po-
tential of developing toward a major executive position. If you have these
qualifications and are interested in joining an aggressive, result-oriented

iod Steve struck again on an-
other one yard dive to give the
Sooners a 21-6 lead. Eleven min-
utes later Owens tossed his sco-
ring pass to Hinton and Okla-
homa had the game tucked a-
way at 28-6.
Missouri scored their final
touchdown after OU fumbled the
