O.U. was issued a mandate
from HEW to study its wort
force to determine if inequities
existed.
Mason said these inequities
were found, and O.U. proposed a
plan to H.E.W to correct these
problems over several years.
Mason said O.U.’s plan has
been returned to the university
several times to be amended, but
said he expects the plan to be
approved early in September
After the plan is approved,
H.E.W will continue to review
O.U.’s progress towards equal
opportunity. Mason said.
Mason will assist O.U.’s ad-
ministration to comply with
H.E.W.'s standards, but he said,
Affirmative Action begins after
compliance. 1 don't think our job
is finished until we have absolute
equal opportunity ”
“There needs to be a complete
dutinctan between compliance
and affirmative action.”

ministration and all components
of the university toward meeting
their commitments. This is
definitely not an enforcement
agency or a policing agency, but
