When some people sit down and think
about Student Congress, they see it as a
non-greek organization. Tm here to tell
you it doesn't have to be that way at all.
With the combined efforts of greeks and
non-greeks at this university, we can bring
together a powerful lobbying force. That’s
why voting for me on Wednesday could be
the best decision you could make.
I also intend to pursue an issue that is
currently being considered. An idea that
would put teacher evaluations into a file,
where students can look them over when
making decisions on classes to take. An
idea that I intend on introducing, if elect-
ed, is temporarily named the “anti-heart-
burn doctrine." This doctrine would
require that professors have office hours
after finals, so that students don’t go
home for the summer or Christinas break
without being able to work out any mis-
takes in their final grades.
I strongly suggest that on Wednesday
you vote for me if you want the best candi-
date to win.

My decision to run for Student Con-
gress is based in my desire to link the stu-
dents to their student representatives and
thus to their administration. 1 would like
the students to know that I will incorpo-
rate.an “open-door” policy, I am willing to
listen to what they have to say, and will do
my best to act on their behalf. I am not
seeking office to pursue my own agenda
but the agenda of my fellow students. If .
elected, it will be your interests that I will
pursue. I look forward to being a part of
Student Congress and being a part of the
legislative branch of UOSA. It is your
right as a student to go to the-polls and
vote. Please do so on Wednesday, and
vote for me, Andrea Brenner.

RESOLVED: That the world is a thor- •
oughly screwed-up place in which govern-
ments, more often than not, taheitat their
liberty to thoroughly screw over the very
people they're designed to protect.
If elected to Student Congress, I
would like to begin reversing the afore-
mentioned statement by attacking issues
that really matter. To begin with, I would
submit page after page of legislation fight-
ing frivolous lawsuits, outrageous insur-
ance rates, governmental corruption and
environmental degradation.
Unfortunately, a seat on Student Con-
gress is not the most ideal place from
which to right these wrongs. Hence, logic
dictates that as a member of Student Con- •
gress I should (and shall, if elected) take
on the task of addressing less universal,
but none the less important, issues of stu-
dent life here at OU.
A few of these issues are: a) the acqui- .
sition of an OU student radio station, b)
the redistribution of vending and book
store sales so that they benefit students
rather than justtake from them and c) the
exploration of alternatives to raises in
tuition.
These are the kinds of issues I would
fight for if elected to Student Congress —
and always with the best interest of the
JriJrat in mind. CaD me anytime at 325-

would greatly appreciate your vote for me,

I have been going to this university for
a few years, and like other people, feel
confused about what goes on in Student
Congress. I used to complain about how
things work on campus, and now I want
to be part of the solution for these prob-
lems.
Last January, we came dose to having
our own radio station. How did it make
you feel when the university did not
accept the one offered to them for free? It
made me sick! If elected, I wiD work hard
at continuing the efforts to bring a stu-
dent-run radio station on campus
Another problem that I wiD address is
the parking mess. I did not even get a
parking permit this year so I could avoid
the hassle of finding a place to park, but
now with the increased CART fares, dri-
ving would be much more convenient at
dose to the same cost If you feel the
same way, then elect someone who wiD
do something about it, and not just taOc
Other issues that I wiD take on indude
the long lines at the bursar’s office, more
accountability to the people using our stu-
dent activity fee, and most of aD, I wiD not
vote “Yes" for a fee increase without the
consent of the students I represent
If elected, I wiD keep you informed of
the changes that may or may not affect
you. If you have any problems you want to
discuss, or want to know how I feel about
a particular issue caD and let me know at

As a freshman, I have noticed many
inconsistencies in the actions of Student
Congress. On some issues, the body rep-
resents the students of this university.
However, on other issues that body
seems to have its own agenda that is dif-
ferent from what the student body seems
to want This is the main reason that I am
running for Student Congress. To me,
Student Congress is the most powerful
voice that the s&idents of this campus
have. That voice should represent the stu-
dents of this campus at aD times, not just
when the issue is a safe issue. By safe
issue I mean one that is not going to
cause a controversy with the current
establishment.
The only way that I can honestly rep-
resent you is to know what you want The
only way that you can know what is going
on so that you can decide what you want
is for me to keep you informed. I plan to
visit the any interested organization, and
inform you what is happening in con-
gress. Once I have done that I wiD wel-
come any input that you might have. In
this way, I wiD be able to represent you
and not just myself and a close group of
friends If this is what you want in a repre-
sentative then vote for Kris Gregory on
Wednesday.

I have never served on congress.
However, I have spent the past semester
as the multicultural liaison for the Hispan-
ic-American Student Association. This has
allowed me to gain experience and under-
standing of Student Congress sessions. I
have regularly attended congress meet-
ings and pledge to do so if I am elected,
ensuring a consistent representative
voice.
I plan to be a delegate and vote based
on talking to the engineering student
body. I believe in representation for the
people and working to get in touch with
student’s views.
Being president of Triangle Fraternity
(engineers, architects and scientists) and
a resident adviser in the Honors House
(mostly engineering residents), I am used
to gauging the needs of engineering stu-
dents.
I want to make sure that engineering
students have a strong voice in Congress.
When David Kendrick ran for the presi-
dency, he told the engineers he would
work for them as an engineer. Although
he’s done weD in office, I don’t think he’s
adequately represented us. Unlike
Kendrick, my efforts will go directly to
issues that are important to engineers.
1 have been an undergraduate
research assistant since my freshman
year, president of Triangle, mentor and
recruiter for the Minority Engineering
Program, vice president of the Society of
Hispanic Professional Engineers and trea-
surer of the Association of Computing
Machinery, among others. These offices
have provided me with great experience
with faculty and administration, especially
in the College of Engineering and the
computer science department. I feel 1 can
use these to help me pursue our con-
cerns, such as ECN constraints, comput-
er charges, engineering representation,
poor library facilities for research and
technical journals, etc. I am ready to
serve as an active representative for you
this coming year, so please vote for me,

are probably just as concerned about
where your money goes as I am For the
three semesters that 1 have been involved
in Student Congress, 1 have been a mem-
ber of the Ways and Means Committee
and was vice chair last fall. Ways and
Means is responsible for allocating a por-
tion of your student activity fee money to
over 200 student organizations and sports
chibs. I believe that my experience in the
budget process would be an asset to Con-
gress in the fall as the committee works
to improve the process and fairly distrib-
ute the funds.
I know that Student Congress is often
seen as a group of self-serving resunte
padders, but your representative should
serve you. I would appreciate bearing
your ideas on any issues congress is cur-
rently dealing with, like possible fee
increases, or other areas you would like to
see congress address. Please remember
to vote for me, Julie Welch, on Wednesday.
I would appreciate your support
for one congressional session and would
Hke the opportunity to continue being
your representative.
My first session has been spent learn-
ing the ins snd outs of Student Congress
and opposing fees on students, voting no
to an increase in student health care fees
and no (twice) on the creation of a cultur-
al and recreational fee. When Student
Congress had difficulty coming to an
agreement with Graduate Student Senate,
I voted to place each fee proposal on the
spring election baDot in order to give the
student body the chance to vote for or
against each fee. Like moot of my fellow
congress members, I voted in support of
student control over the vending and
bookstore money.

Fellow Students,
My name is KJ. Little, and I am run-
ning to be your UOSA Life and Physical
Sciences Representative. This job is a
major responsibility, and I am ready to
take it head on. There are many issues I
feel must be taken care of I feel that the
students in the Life and Physical Sciences
District need to be better informed of
what is going on in Congress. Most of the
information that we read about UOSA is
in the paper, and everyone knows how
distorted this reporting can be. UOSA
recently passed legislation that requires
all representatives to attend organization-
al meetings that are in their district, such
as Pre-Med Chib, AISES and the Society
for Physics Students. I plan on attending
aD of these meetings faithfully, in order to
keep my feUow classmates informed of
what goes on in our Congress.
Also, I would be open for all sugges-
tions that students would have for me.
Many students have good ideas for
UOSA, but they don’t know who their rep-
resentatives are, so they don’t know who
to give their ideas to. I will make sure that
students know that their ideas are impor-
tant because UOSA is for the students.
Finally, I wiD continue to push legisla-
tion that meets students needs. I feel that
we must continue to push for the money
from vending machines and the book-
store. We spend a ton of money at these
places, and I feel that it is time to get our
chunk back. I wiD also push for clubs and
organizations that don’t have a strong
foothold in the UOSA, so that they may
also have a piece of the action.
I would appreciate your vote on
March 30. Remember KJ. Little for Life
and Physical Sciences Representative.

Why are there so many problems
within the university in the management
of funds? As a student do you feel frustrat-
ed that control of these funds is out of
your hands? I certainly do. 1 also feel that
Student Congress should control particu-
lar funds in a way that would better bene-
fit the students and faculty of this univer-
sity. The majority of funds are controlled
by the administration, and that’s where
they tend to stay. There simply aren't suf-
ficient funds appropriated for the library,
research facilities and the faculty itself.
This university can no longer continue to
remain competitive with other universi-
ties if the quality of education is not main-
tained at an above average level. After aD,
good teachers and good facilities are what
make a great and reputable university.
Vote me into student congress and I

Why should you vote for me if you
have a major in this academic district’ Ill
teD you why. To aD economics majors,
Keynes once said, “Economists have not
yet earned the right to be listened to atten-

As a representative of nine different
majors, I wiD strive to listen to anyone with
an opinion — and listen attentively. To aD
who have majors that deal with the study

Sadat said, ‘There can be only hope for a

Not only should 1 as a Congress mem-
ber work weD with other members, but
we as a campus should strive for unity in
every endeavor. Edmund Burke, a name

I am running for Student Congress on -
behalf of the 700 Asian-Americans on
campus. We as a group are becoming

want to become a lightning rod in further-
ing our involvement
I want to represent you in Student
Congress because I believe in service and
in making a difference. As press secre-

ciation I immersed myself in fulfiDing the
duties of the position; I considered myself
a servant of the Asian-American students
of OU, and as your congressman, I’D con-
