Poet of Hadley Mass who has lived in darkness for 59
of his 72 years has written the following Yuletide
verse for the United Press
A POEM FOR CHRISTMAS
ity ciahknci: ii ws ki:s
When the tumult and the thunder
Of earth’s cannon all are still
And man’s paid for every blunder
In a sea of human ill
Then he’ll listen to the story
Of that Christmas long ago
When God shared with man Ilis glory
Joy that conquest cannot know
He who spoke in such clear fashion
As the earth has rarely known
Said that who made war his passion
Would by it he overthrown
So this storm that wrecks our nation
Sending fear o’er vale and hill
Will give way to God's compassion
To Christ’s gentle “Peace be still”'
Man can never thrive on hating
Only love and truth endure
So in judgment God is waiting
For His love to work itfr cure
Bring to all a new devotion
In the brotherhood of earth
This is Christmas’ true emotion
This the meaning of Christ’s birth

Sheriff's Office Pufrs
Anadarko Nighfr Club
On Retired List
County officers Tuesday after-
noon placed a padlock on Hillcrest
Inn night spone one mile east of
Anadarko on Highway 62 continu-
ing a ‘'clean-up" drive that has re-
sulted In the closing of four other
dance halls ard places where beer
was sold In the county within the
last month
The action came after County
Judge Limerick acting in the ab-
sence of the district Judge had
signed a temporary restraining ord-
er against Bob Johnson operator
at Hillcrest on a petition of Sheriff
Joe Harp
The order will become permanct
unless answered by Johnson by Jan
23 In event an answer Is filed the
case will be taken into district
court for hearing on the petition
for a permanent injunction
Warns Other Halls
At the same time Sheriff Harp
served warning that the few re-
maining places in the county where
beer is sold and dancing is per-
mitted on the premises are "trod-
ding on thin ice and operating on
borrowed time” if trouble occurs
there
"I think In times such as these
with our defense problems to handle
and being located as near to Fort
Sill as we are we should keep such
places as these cloeed” the sheriff
said "If the few remaining places
have trouble on their premises
they are just operating on borrow-
ed time We are going to close them
up too”
Action against Hillcrest came
after officers reportedly had been
called there on a number cf occa-
sions in the past few weeks to stop
trouble the most recent being last
Saturday night when a man alleg-
edly was injured in a fight
Sheriff Harp said the rumor had
gotten out that the man was killed
in the fight but said this report
was untrue He declared however
that liie man was “pretty badly
beaten up" Officers said the man
was not a soldier but that they
understood a soldier was involved
in the alleged altercation
Trouble Mentioned
In his petition for the restrain-
ing order Sheriff Harp listed this
alleged trouble and other occasions
when officers have been called to
Hillcrest He said also that his of-
fice had received reports of other
trouble that allegedly had occurred
there when officers were not called
I H "Slim” Thompson and T
Ycunt deputies in the sheriff's of-
fice went to Hillcrest to place the
padlock after the order had been
signed by Judge Limerick
It is the second time the place
has been padlocked officers said
the first being several months ago
when it was situated across the road
and operated under another name
However since that time the build-
ing was moved across the road to
its present location and opened un-
der a new name and new manage-
