Syria Continued...
As Die fogle goes to press the President has
announced that he has some hope that a new Russian diplo-
matic initiative - one designed to remove all weapons of
mass destruction from Syna, may obviate the need tor the US
to launch a cruise missile strike against the Syrian military
And the unlikely Russian gambit comes |ust tn the ruck of
time the President is having enormous difficulties putting
together the coalition of willing nations and securing the po
iitical partners in Washington needed to gamer House and
Senate support for an Amencan strike initiative.
Every iMkhoma £ag/r reader w ith eyes and ears probably
knows, the Deborah Brown Community School has been
under tremendous assault by a small army of cntks - local
and online -- for what arguably, were a set of antique hair-
style policies A 7-year-old student departed the schixil be-
cause of hard feedings on the part of their parents and the
child The hair cases received national and even international
attention - and the Brown school is accused of various
strange things including being anti African-American Dus
is an odd commentary since the school has a student body
composed overwhelmingly of African-American kids and is
headed up by a chansmatk leader who is arguably the most
important black educational leader Oklahoma is a long
standing figure tn the national charter school movement and
in African America educational circles
especially its glory days dur-
ing the oil boom It should
continue New buildings, if
done right, will enhance an
already glorious skyline For
But this paper is under no illusions - as |ohn Kerry, our
Secretary of State has treelv conceded, the* Russian initiative
may not actually produce an outcome - it may be moon
shine Dw Russians and their long standing Syrian allies
may simply be using the prospect of a resolution without
force as a wav to delay US intervention - a way to build time
for them to do other things that don t entail the weapons of
mass destruction pulldown that Barack Dbama and many
nghteous people in Washington wish to see to forestall the
prospect of more monstrous attacks id the ktnd that devas
tated the- suburb* of Damascus on August 21
