Carnival Hates from 30
The Sooner Carnival pland as a
university tradition was first held
here in the spring of 19110 Sponsor-
ed hv the administration lt was an
all-university affair with Its func-
tions in charge of a student I ward
sit ut ly the administration Pro-
ceeds of the carnival were to go
into a fund for the University of
Oklahoma Semi-Centennial Celebra-
tion to he held In 1942 Till cele-
bration was never held liecause or
the war
Instead two funds were ret up
one to make the first donation to
the University Endowment fund
This was a 81000 war bond In the
iiiher a working fund there 'still
renjpijiK 885147 which-could -be ap-
plied to the carnival if it is held
tills year April of 1942 was the
last time Hie Sooner Carnival was
given
For this carnival different cam-
pus organizations clubs as well as
houses set up booth attractions or
side-shuws along a “Midway” Stage-
shows ball-throwing magic mar-
vels and other kinds of carnival en-
tertainment were provided for the
student body Ferries wheels and
rides were rented from outside
sources for this event All the en-
tetaimnent was by the students
1940 1941 anti 19-12 were held either
on the grounds south of the biology
building or east and north of the
engineering building It was held
on Friday and Saturday-
During the war due to transior-
tation difficulties Frontier Week
was made a campus activity to
take the place of a big celebration
at Homecoming During this time
studen' dressed in Jeans plaid
si t'rts and western “get-up”
Sjxmsoml by the Union Activi-
ties board Frontier Days featured
a series of picnics hav-ridcs husk-
ing Ik-os shows by houses and a
stage show in Western tradition
