Quiet Souls Okeh
Miss Gessner s Ban
On All ‘Swingaroos
Adnum of thf quiet life on the
eamiKia are due to come into their
own now that Miss Margaret Gessner
director of Union activities has rul-
ed a taboo on "swing roos" and the
“jitterbugs"
Students voted almost overwhelm-
ingly Monday in favor of the Union
director's ultimatum on “wild danc-
ing" on the ballroom floor
No violent objections wet' raised
to the activity director's ruling
Sidney Miller Duncan said “I like
swing music I like her ruling and I
think that this is the best rule that
has gone into effect since aQ fresh-
men were forced to take physical ex-
aminations" 1
Mary Spear Ardmore declared
“Students should he allowed to do
anything they- want to do or what is
the reason for coming to school— at
least anything within reason”
' Dorothy Holmes Pauls Valley
thought (hat the “Jitterbug craze is
“vulgar” and that Mist Geaaner was
justified in her announcement at Sat-
urday's swing session
Marcella Roberta Oklahoma City
believed that Miss Geaaner should
have contacted the “wild dancers"
and talked to them personally rather
than making an announcement before
the whole crowd
i Fain Pool Lawton declared “I
don't dance too tame but I try to keep
my feet on the floor I think Miss
Gessner should be complimented for
her ruling ''
Joe Breaune Norman agreed with
the majority of the’ students in his
contention that the-wild dancing was
keeping the more of leu timid danc-
ers from attending the function -
Jimmy Tucker Binger remarked
"I like to whirl Httle and have a
geneui good time when I go to a
dance but the silly gyration which
have become to prevalent around here
have taken most of my interest out of
dancing” ''

Coach John Jacobs la not promising a
conference title this season for he has
yet to develop a good runner fast
enough to lead the conference’s best
to ilie tape something which helps
tremendously when the final score
is tabulated
The Sooner coach does believe how-
ever that he win have a better team
than the one which finished fifth In
last year's Big Six meet If the team
Improves with age Jacobs has a cinch
for every man from last year’s squad
will be back
One reason for (ha optimism In the
camp is th improvement of Ray Ga-
han during the spring Gahana lanky
blond junior likely will lead the team
to the tape this season Other veter-
ans back are W T “Dixie" Howell
senior and Leon Clibert and Eddie
Gras junior
Carl Lnchner younger brother of
Floyd is a junior but this will be his
first y“ar of eligibility for the two-
mile squad Another newcomer la
Clinton McCarthy- a transfer from
Oklahoma A and M
The most promising sophomore Is
Roliert McKinney winner of the half-
mile anil mile in last spring's Intra-
mural meet Several others prolsibly
will report after school gets umler
way
The schedule Includes
