A rare bronze statue
believed smuggled out
of Thailand has gone on
display at the Metro-
politan Museum of Art,
which bought it for
1300.000.

bought for testing by
Consumer Reports
magazine in the last
year had an average of
23 defects each — five
of them "serious," Con-
sumers Union reports.
Car-testers found a
total of 826 defects in
the 36 cars, "Including
25 exhaust leaks, which
could be hazardous,"
the non-profit consum-
er group said.
All the defects "rep-
resented lapses in the
factory and in dealer
preparation, not design
shortcoming," the re-
port said.
