IMItr Price for Cot to ia Okla-
ken Thi Year
The Oklahoma cottor market la
higher this year than in any sur-
rounding atate according to recortle
of the U S Bureau of Market and
of the State Board of Agriculture
“I attribute thia condition to the co-
operative marketing of a good per
cent of the crop in Oklahoma thia
year" aaya John A Whitehurst pres-
ident of the State Board of Agricul-
ture "There ia ro question but that
the activities of the Oklahoma Cotton
Grower Aaaociation are responsible
for the higher price paid on the
atreeta In our local markets in com-
parison with Texas and Arkansas Lo-
cal atreet buyers have been forced to
pay all the cotton ia worth and in
many cases considerably more The
result la that non-member growers
are benefiting as well us members"
In previous years according to
government records Oklahoma grow-
ers have received on an average from
one-half a cent to 3 cents per pound
less for their cotton than their neigh-
bors in Texas and Arkansas On De-
cember 1 1920 the difference between
Oklahoma and Texas and Arkansas
market prices was almost 3 cents
Referring to the importance of a
knowledge of grade arid staple to the
grower Mr Whitehurst says “I be-
lieve the Oklahoma Cotton Growers
Association will justify itself and
doubly repay the expense Incident to
its organization and operation if it
get a for its members the benefit oi
the true grade and staple of their cot-
ton when it is sold”
