The Coweta Chamber of Commerce is com-
posed of live-wire business men who are devoting
much of their time and means to promote every
laudable and industrial interest of the town ant
community and is an organization of which any
city or town would justly feel pride Despite this
fact there are a few business men here who have
stood aloft from it and reaped a reward from the
public spiritedness of its members They are
probably saving a few paltry dollars but losing a!

President-elect Hardin’ havin’ his photo taken
with a fish sort o’ bears out President Wilson’s
contention that th’ G 0 P haint had a new idea
in thirty years — Abe Martin 1
A youth arrested for theft in Jersey City says
he is a millionaire’s son which identifies him as
effectively as though he said his name was Smith
— Muskogee Times-Democrat
The Hamon case has lost about all interest
among respectable people but it seems that the
woman with the assistance of space writers on
the daily papers is making a phiy for a vaudeville
engagement and the nasty affair is being kept
prominently before the public
Times-Star advertisers have edited the paper
for the past several weeks so acceptably and prof-
itably to our readers that we resume that duty
with reluctance this week while they are busy
invoicing their stocks and getting ready for some
hot shots in the bargain price line pretty soon
Madame Teleme Europe’s famous seeress is
out with a prediction that President-elect Harding
is going to have troubulous times applying his pol-
icies The prediction is a safe one Any darned
fool knows that any and all American presidents
meet with stubborn opposition from the time they
take their seats until their defeat is finally encom-
passed Let us hope that Mr Harding may escape
the slime of envy and hate heaped upon Mr Wil-
son for he will soon be your president and our
president and all of us should wish him well
The Republican so-called “tariff” bill bu
which in fact is an embargo bill is being held up
by the Democrats in the senate Senator Hitch-
cock holds that the bill’s policy is “suicidical” an
continuing said: “It’s purpose is to erect tariff
and not to raise revenue At this time of all other
the country ought not to raise tariff barriers
against any nation in the world We are a creditor
nation and must have a market for our surplus
What we need above all else is to do business with
other nations not to raise tariff barriers to pre-
vent other nations paying part of their debts with
their products”
Thieves stole the safe out of the Oklahoma
Natural Gas Co’s office in Tulsa week before last
and neither the safe nor the money it contained
can be located The Tulsa World deplores the rob-
bery thusly: “The theft of the gas company’s
safe was a very very wicked thing which no good
citizen will condone Yet candor compels the ad-
mission that it was another case of one hi-j acker
frisking another hi-jacker”
Jim Harris of Wagoner will succeed Jake
Hamon as Republican National Committeeman
From a Republican standpoint no better selection
could have been made for Harris subordinates ev-
ery other consideration for party aggrandizement
and spoils and his past record proves him an
adept at the political game
Over at Muskogee insurance agents are ad-
vertising policies against burglary hold-ups
purse snatching and the loss of money and valu-
ables That’s good advertising to drive shoppers
away from Muskogee but fortunately few people
take such insurance ads seriously
