S B THOMASON
Salter of the Headlight has had an-
other dream — he’s full of dreams
and this time it is visions of Timmons
building the court house and levying
an extra L0 mill tax and filling the
offices full of old guards et cetra
Tim may have some peculiar ideas
but to accuse him of mixing the
coming primary election with the
erection of the much needed court
house is to display a gob of exagger-
ated imagination that would make
Jules Verne look like a piker
W O Mendenhall president of the
Friends University at Wichita was in
charge of the services at the local
Friends church Sunday evening Ha
is a splendid speaker and pleased the
audience
WHY NOT BE TRUTHFUL?
It has come to the attention of the
Messenger that the report is being
given some publicity that Earl C
Harkins candidate for the nomina-
tion to the office of court clerk on the
democratic ticket is not qualified to
hold the office because he is not a
graduate of the high school For the
benefit of those who do not know it
is here stated that such reports are
false as Mr Harkins graduated with
good grades in the class of ’17 from
the Cherokee high school-
SALTER A FINE CHAP
That Leslie Salter makes friends
readily is proved by good words we
heard for him in the Amorita neigh-
borhood just after the Fourth at
which place he made ashort address
during the celebration While the
Salter family h been known in the
Strip ever since there was a “Strip”
young Salter himself has been occu-
pying his time since graduation from
the Carmen high school in a four
year’s course at the O U at Norman
and as a result of his studies has not
been mingling with the “home folks”
to any great extent- Thus his ap-
pearance at Amorita gave the people
of that section their first opportunity
to pass judgment from appearance of
the calibre of the young man who
seeks the nomination on the republi-
can ticket as representative to the
state legislature from this county
Salter is truely a native son bom
at Alva twenty-five years ago the son
of L A- Salter pioneer newspaper
man and lowyer of - Alfalfa and
Woods counties He has grown up in
Oklahoma and the chances are he'll
be a fixture to Oklahoma as long as
he’s on earth At least those are his
intentions at thfe present time His
studies at Oklahoma University were
interrupted by the World War he
serving two years most of the time
in France where he was gassed He
is one of several former service men
to return to his home county and ask
