Pawhuska, Aug. 30 —The Osage al-
lotting commission bas now com-
menced active work, wbicb will be
kept up till all the Osage* have re-
ceived tbeir allotment*. The Indians
are now making their first selection
of land. For this they bave three
montns from the passage of the allot-
ment bill, or until September 23.
\. h;n the selections are all made tbe
commission mum -end out surveying
parties to check up tbe selections,
while tbe Indian agent bas to make

selectlous lor minors and delinquent
adults.
After these are ail checked up tbe >
second selection will be opened, and
tbe Indians agalu gi ven three months ,
for tbeir second selections. This will I
be followed by tbe same checking j
process, alter which the third aelec*!
tion will be made in a similar man-
ner. It will take something over a
year to get all the selections made.
Then the commission bas tbe task of
dividing the surplus lands as equally
as possible, which will make a total
to eacb Indian of about "*0 acres, in-
cluding tbe three selections of lt>0
acres each and about 300 acres sur-
plus.
Tbe commission bas not yet begun !
to bear contests, and if very many of
them develop, It will prolong tbe
work of the commission. Members
of the commission do not expect tbe
work to be finished much under three
years. The work of course Is delayed
somewhat by reason of tbe fact that
all of tbe business of tne commission '
must be conducted through an inter-'
prcter. Black Dog, tbe Osage mem- j
her of tbe commiwlon, speaks no
English, while Commissioners Mc-
Cnesnty and Shepherd neither one of ;
tbem can speak Osage. Black Djg,
who 's a typical full blood, seems,
however, to have made a good Im-
pr« s-lcn on tbe other commissioners,

Washington, Aug. 30. — Nothing
short of tbe placing on meat products
of labels which will not deceive the
public was tbe ultimatum which Sec-

Here; Iter, if tbe packers want their
goods accepted for interstate ship-

hitherto. It will not do. for instance,
to state merely that a package con-

tinctly describe tbe article and plain-
ly show that the sausage Is made of

A Good
Housed
Leaving a good house un-
painted is as imprudent as
leaving greenbacks out in
the rain. A house unpro«
tected by good paint cracks
and rots and is unsightly all
the time.
Whatever you do, jxiitlt!
Whenever /ou paint, use
good paint and have it put
on by a good painter and it
will not be necessary to have 1
it done to often.
And with the outside in
a fresh, seasonable dress, the
inside will look dingy and
ragged. One of our latest
styles of wall paper will fit
it up so that you will be
proud of it.
The cost won't scare you
either when you see the kind
of work we do.
