Delicately formed and gently reared women
will find in all the seasons of their lives as
maidens wives or mothers that the one simple
wholesome remedy which acts gently and
pleasantly and naturally and which may be
used with truly beneficial effects under any
conditions when the system needs a laxative
is — Syrup of Figs and Elixir of Senna It i3
well known to be a simple combination of the
laxative and carminative principles of plants
with pleasant aromatic liquids which are
agreeable and refreshing to the taste and
acceptable ' to the 6ystem when its gentle
cleansing is desired
Only those who buy the genuine Syrup of
Figs and Elixir of Senna can hope to get its
beneficial effects and as a guarantee of the
excellence of the remedy the full name of the
company— California Fig Syrup Co — is printed
on the front of every package and without it
any preparation offered as Syrup of Figs and
Elixir of Senna is fraudulent and should be
declined To those who know the quality of
this excellent laxative the offer of any substi-
tute when Syrup of Figs and Elixir of Senna
is called for is always resented by a transfer
of patronage to some first-class drug establish-
ment where they do not recommend nor sell

KING EDWARD
refused to make a statement Some
of the king’s friends are convinced
that worry over the cri’ical political
situation which confronted him with
sleepless nights aggravated if It uid
not cause toe fatal Illness
The Intelligence that the end of
King Edward's reign had come was
not a surprice at the last The peo
pie bad been expecting to hear it
any hour since the evenings bulle-
tin was posted at Buckingham palace
and flashed throughout the kingdom
The capital received It without ex
cltement but sadly for the king with
his own people was unquestionably
one of the most popular rulers in the
world They rogarded aim as one
of the strongest forces making for
the stability f the peace of the em
pire
All who knew the king expected his
death would be sudden and t would
not have occasioned great surprise
if It had occurred without warning
at some social function as a result ot
heart trouble Almost to the end he
refused to take to his bed and was
sitting up Thursday In a large chair
so the palace stories go corroborat-
ing the description of him as an un-
ruly patient which Dr Ott gave to a
Vienna interviewer
1 Within a few minutes aft-r the
death of the king the home office was
telegraphing the Intelligence to heads
of other governments and the diplo-
mats colonial officials throughout the
world
One of the last utterances attrib-
uted to King Edward was:
“Well it Is all over but I think I
have done my duty”
The public immediately Interpreted
these sinificant words to mean that
the king’s case was absolutely hope-
loss That conviction pervaded Lon-
don and the entire kingdom The
bulletin was transmitted to all the
royal relatives before it was made
public and the rapid sequence of ar-
rivals of royalties at the palace with-
in the next hour confirmed so far as
confirmation was needed the most
alarming views
Just twenty-four hours after the
first news was broken to the public
as from a clear sky that the king
was suffering from bronchitis wltn
the physicians statement that his con-
dition “causes some anxiety” came
the official pronouncement that “his
majesty’s conutlon is now critical”

How often do you eat this food?
A short time ago there appeared in
the columns of one of the prominent
magazines an article on building brain
and muscle by the proper selection of
the foods you eat
A good many people were surprised
to find oatmeal placed at the top of
the list of foods recommended but if
the article had appeared in an English
or Scotch paper every reader would
have expected to see first place given
to good oatmeal
As a matter of fact Great Britain
and Europe come to us for tremendous
quantities of Quaker Oats because it
represents to them perfect food being
the richest in flavor and best in clean-
liness and purity of all oatmeals
It is packed in regular size pack-
ages and ln hermetically sealed tins
for hot climates ' 55
