Many a fellow roars loudly for
justice and then howls mightily
when he gets it -
The women are right
There’s no fun in having a secret
if you are not allowed to tell it
The funny man seldom laughs
at his own wit
Without the brains the Lord
gave you you would never have
been able to accumulate the
wealth that you have How
much do you whack up 7
Wealth comes to those who
know how to get it and departs
from those who do not know
how to kep it
A daily paper says that ' big
business needs 200000 trained

THE ROAD BONDS
Some men damn their mothers-in-law
curse the weather
and rave at the condition of our
highways These people are all
“het up” over things that could
be wftrse and which cannot be
remedied for considerable time
A more cheerful view of mat-
ters might make conditions look
different
In fact these fellows' mothers-in-law
may be quite amiable and
respectable old ladies the
weather is the work of the Al-
mighty and He will ' probably
run it to suit himself the roads
and bridges while in a deplor-
able condition in this county
will be rebuilt and repaired if
people will get behind the coun-
ty commissioners and assist
them in doing it
And what is needed to rebuild
and repair the roads and bridges
is money The advalorem tax
that can Jawfully be raised in
one year will not be one-fourth
enough to repair the damage
done so if the people want trav-
el to get back to a normal stage
in the next year instead of wait-
ing four years they must vote
for the bonds at the election
November 30 There is no oth-
er way out of ' the deplorable
situation
Bonds are unpleasant to think
about taxes of any kind are not
a pleasure to pay but we believe
this is one time when the emer-
gency is such that there should
be few votes against the pro-
posed issue

Other Investigations Needed
As the investigation of the
Veterans’ Bureau proceeds a
worse and worse mess is reveal-
ed Looting of the Government
right and left seems to have
been carried on under ' the
directorship of CoL Charles
R Forbes One witness
testified - to ‘ the sale of
$3000000 worth of supplies
for $300000 to a Boston firm
Even pajamas made for our sol-
diers by their mothers were dis-
posed of at 30 cents a pair
The facts brought to light in
the Teapot Dome inquiry and
the Veterans’ Bureau query
ought to be an incentive to a de-
mand for investigations into
other departments and bureaus
of the Government where
charges have been It would
be interesting for the public to
know what has been going on in
the Department of Agriculture
Department of Justice and the
Shipping Board They know to
some extent what has taken
place in the Bureau of Engrav-
ing and Printing in connection
with the outrageous dismissal
of 28 employes of that bureau
but it would be well if the public
could know all that has taken
place therein
Talk To Your Officers
Sometimes we publicly criti-
cise our officials for something
they have done Then again it
is something they have failed to
do that calls forth our words of
PPnflllPO
They are at fault for their
errors and we are -equally at
fault for talking about them in-
stead of to them
When a public official is adopt-
ing a course that is inimical to
the public weal the better thing
to do is to go straight to him
and state the case as we see it-
If he is the right kiiid of an
official he will listen to us and
reason with us and be glad that
we talked to him instead of- to
others n
If he is not pleased to see us
he is not the man we want for
the job and one term should be
sufficient

Mussolini Is Right
H E Benito Mussolini prime
minister of Italy in a recent
interview said : ‘‘No nation
can call itself well organized and
prosperous which has within its
borders any large number of
people who are insufficiently pro-
vided with the necessities of
life There is nothing the mat-
ter with the logic of socialism
or communism but life does not
fit in with that logic and look at
what disaster has been brought
about in Russia by blindly insist-
ing upon a logic that does not fit
lifet We live in a world of
people” ’

handling of the bow and this

are being erected in every direc-

The patriotic fervor of some
of these would-be presidents is
a marveluos thing to behold
It is heart touching and - soul
stirring to a degree until one
remembers that these patriots
who would ‘‘cast their all upon
the altar to their country” are
just plain politicians seeking
the glory of the highest office
in the land instead of waiting
for the office to seek them
Patriots? They remind us of
