CITY WELFARE LEAGUE PLANS
MODEL HOME FOR BOYS
OKLAHOMA CITY— The proposed
home for delinquent boys would be
as much like an ordinary school as
possible if recommendations adopted
at a meeting of the Welfare league
are accepted by the county comraia-
aioners Tentative plans of the league com-
mittee for the management and opera-
tion of the home were submitted at
the meeting at the Chamber of Com-
merce 1

charge of boys’ chib work announced
Saturday that he planned a calf and
pig contest for the clubs for the
Southwest American livestock show to
beheld at the coliseum here next
March Club members are selecting
and weighing calves now for the start
of the contest Actual weighing in of
calves will start November 1 and of
pigs December 1 so that the animals
will be on full feed when the contest
opens
EDMOND FARMER HURT
AT OKLAHOMA CITY
OKLAHOMA CITY— Tom Perry
60-year-old farmer living near Ed-
mond was seriously injured near noon
Saturday when he fell from the seat
of a wagon his nephew was driving
at the corner of Second street and
Western avenue At the University
hospital where he was taken it is re-
ported that he may be injured inter-
nally Perry apparently fainted Witness-
es said that he suddenly toppled over
and fell to the pavement striking his
head
FARMER NEAR EDMOND
COMMITS SUIClfiE
EDMOND — R E Phillips promi-
nent farmer here committed suicide
at his home at the edge of town early
Tuesday by swallowing acid
Despondency over the death of his
wife a year ago and the fact that a
recent paralystic stroke left him
crippled are believed to have caused
the act
Phillips leaves two daughters Ruth
19 and Edna 17 students in Central
Teachers College here :
COUNTY POULTRY SHOW
AT EDMOND NEXT MONTH
EDMOND — The Oklahoma County
Poultry Federation will hold its show
at - Edmond again this year in Cen-
tral Hall from Nov 29th to Dec 2nd
inclusive The business ' men of Ed-

make the prises more enticing to those

street paved road to Oklahoma City
was opened for traffic Saturday
throughout its length This gives a
hard surfaced road all the way into

ing much more pleasant

agricultural education visited the high
school Monday in the interest of the
vocational work and in preparation
for a meeting of superintendents prin-
cipals vocational teachers and board
members of the following schools:
Choctaw Arcadia Wellston and Luth-
er to be held at Luther at some future
date These meetings are for the
purpose of explaining vocational work
and its place in our school system
After spending eighteen months in
the Navy during the war and three
ears as a carpenter Edwin Croak
as re-entered school as a Senior
Charles Thayer a graduate of the
Road of Good Intentions
1921 class spent last year in Oklaho-
ma A A M College has been farming
during the summer and falL Since
school started he has been driving a
school truck and now that crops are
just about gathered he has decided
to take all the vocational agriculture
offered in school this year
Choctaw High School has a number
of transfers this year -Melvin Ben-
son and Elmer Jones seniors trans-
ferred from Jones district Nellie
Wallace senior Sooner district Opal
Lyne sophomore Texas district:
Marie and Gladys Hoskins senior and
junior respectively from Spencer and
Enzehia Fale from Valley district
Up to-date there has been twenty-
nine enrolled in agriculture Tne fol-
lowing subjects are offered: Feeds
and Feeding Livestock Judging for
Beginners Poultry Husbandry and
Farm Shop Work '
Owing to the fact that the weather
has been favorable for gathering
crops practically all of the pupils are
in school every day
Choctaw High School basket ball
team is getting in shape for the regu-
lar season by daily practice and by
playing a few games with nearby
schools Up to date the team has
won two out of three games
The Petroleum Age
Gives Martin Story
A recent issue of the “Petroleum
Age” gives the Martin Service Station
at Jones City(a nice write-up That
publication says:
“One of the handsomest small-town
service stations in Oklahoma was com-
pleted at Jones recently by the Mar-
tin Service Station Co of Granite
Okla and Jones Okla It is the
second of a line the company expects
to install along highways of the state
The other which cost $6600 is in
operation at Granite
H N Martin of Granite is general
manager of the company and W H
Martin of Jones who is in charge of
this 'station is assistant manager
Martin boxes will assist big white
letters on a red background on large
sign boards of the highways in direct-
ing the traveler to a Martin station
Rest rooms are to be a feature of all
the Martin stations
“We will handle no novelties” says
Manager Martin “We are not ex-
perimenting and we don’t care to in-
dulge the traveler in experiments”

Grinds Much Corn
The price of corn is steadily ad-
vancing which is good news to the
farmers who raise this crop The
Little Garage A Milling Co has been
paying from 76c to 80c per bushel the
past week They are grinding lots of
corn into meal and chops
FARM SOLD
The south thirty acres of the Frank
Trosper farm just south of Jones
City known as the Bedford place has
been bought by a man named Cruse
who has also rented the balance of
the farm He will move to the same
about the first of the year

tendent visited school here Monday
- Miss Connie Ogle who has been
quite sick in Oklahoma City the past
few weeks has returned home very
much improved
Gladys Dana who has been in the
hospital the last two months return-
ed home last Tuesday and is getting
along nicely
The Christian Endeavorers gave a
surprise social Monday night at the
Methodist church for Eula Wadsworth
in honor of her eighteenth birthday
anniversary About twenty-five
young people were present and the
evening was enjoyably spent in
games contests and music The so-
ciety presented her with a beautiful
manicuring set for which she is very
thankful Refreshments of apples
oranges and banannas were served
The Patrons’ Club meeting held at
the school building last Wednesday
night was largely attended After
the business meeting was disposed of
a nice program was rendered as fol-
lows: A story by Fay Baer Solo
Frank Ogle a minuet by eight girls
from Miss Pirtle’s room a song by
the Jolly Band from Mr Dial’s room
song by the girls Glee Club piano
duet by Mrs Thompson and Salome
Loman of Luther trombone solo by
Roy Hughes and a quartette by Mr
Tippy Frank Ogle Mr Dial and
Ralph Odor Quite a number of visit-
ors were present from Luther and we
invite them to come again Refresh-
ments of fruit salad cake and coffee
were served in the dining room which
was beautifully decorated in keeping

An Aged Farmer
Was Found Dead
J F Westernberger 77 years old
who lived alone on his farm east of
Spencer was found dead at his home
Monday afternoon by a neighbor L
Z Jack For two days the old man
had not been seen about his place and
people in the vicinity began to worry
as the old man was never known to
leave without advising someone of his
departure
When Jack went to Westenbergers
home Monday he found all the win-
dows and doors locked and was com-
pelled to force an entrance into the
nouse
Justice of the Peace C L Smith of
Oklahoma City was notified After
an investigation he pronounced Wes-
tenberger s death due to natural
causes
DRILL ON FRANK LOVELL FARM
IS DOWN TO THE CAP ROCK
The drill at the test well on the
Frank Lovell farm in Dewey town-
ship being drilled by Chas Shaw of
Lawton and Lasby A The Lockwood
Investment Co of Oklahoma City
has reached at a depth of about 1400
feet what is believed to be the cap
rock immediately beneath what is
believed to be a gas sand

William Curtis 67
Died Last Week
William Curtis 67 years old a for-
mer resident of the Jones City com-
munity died October 17 at his home
near Kingfisher Burial was made
Sunday in the Odd Fellows’ cemetery
near Jones City
Deceased was born in Bane county
Wisconsin where he grew to man-
hood and where he was married The
family later moved to Kansas and
came to Oklahoma in the year of the
opening 1889 and homesteaded a
farm a mile and a half south of Jones
City where they lived until about 16
years ago when they moved to King-
fisher county where they have since
resided His wife died 19 years ago
and was buried here
Mr Curtis leaves six sons and three
daughters as follows: Will Roy
Frank and Ross of Seattle Wash
Pete and Opie of near Kingfisher
Mrs Bertha Strumk of Kingfisher
Mrs Ruby Doupy of Kiel Okla and
Mrs Audrie Miller of Winfield Kas
He also leaves two sisters Mrs Louis
Alexson of Beaver county and Mrs
Julia Nighty of Medford Okla He
also leaves a brother a resident of
Wisconsin
All of the children were present at
the burial
The relatives have the sympathy of
all in the death of their dear father
and brother

Have Been Ginned
About 1000 bales of cotton have
been ginned in Jones City up to date
The ginners expect the total to reach
about 1200 bales when the season

penetrating' it a considerable flow of
gas was said to have been found
As the cap rock is of very hard
formation drilling through it will be
slow and the result will not be known
for several days The promoters
have great hopes that a paying strike
will be made

Joined in Marriage
The news leaked out this week of
the marriage on September 80 of a
well known Jones City couple Mr
Ross Allen and Miss Wilmuth Finley
which event took place while the bride
was visiting at Clinton They kept
the secret until now and expected to
keep it longer but The News learned
the facts and as we publish all the
news here it is
Mr Allen is an industrious young
farmer the son of Mr and Mrs W
H Allen three miles east of here
He is well respected and well liked by
all
The bride was born and reared here
and she also has many friends
The newly married couple has the
best wishes of all for a long and happy
wedded life

Drainage Project
Is Completed
O M Cole A Co of Luther have
finished their job on the drainage
ditch near Choctaw and the same
has been turned over to the county
for approval This ditch is several
miles in length and will reclaim much
valuable farm land in the vicinity of
Choctaw
