CLUB TO GIVE AID
IN HIGHWAY PLANS
WANTS TEST WELL
CooperattSSwith the chamber of
commerce in looking after the high-
way interests of Frederick and Till-
man county was shown by the Lions
club Wednesday when it decided
that the club should sent two dele-
gates to attend the state highway
meeting to be held at Oklahoma City
January 16
The delegations from the two or-
ganizations are expected -to not only
attend the highway conference but
to look after the 'county’s welfare in
any highway construction movement
which may be on foot at the capital'
and If possible to secure an appro-
priation for Oklahoma’s' half of the'
(cost of tire construction of a bridge
aoross Red river south of Davidson
The club heard the report of r
Mounts of the-meeting of the lee
Highway association in Washington
when the highway was designated
through Tillman county Mr Mounts
said that people In the east consider-
ed paved highways a very great as-
set They are building highways
through the mountains there which
cost them 6100000 a mile and they
think nothing of that except that
they are making a good investment
The city of Bristol Virginia where
the president of he Lee Highway as-
sociation resides has trebled in size
and wealth he said since it first got
rn a hard surfaced road It now has
eight such roads leading out from it
“A committee in Virginia repres-
enting a big manufacturing concern
was waiting to see where Lee High-
way was to be located because it
wanted to spend 610000000 in con-
struction of factories along the high-
way -
“There is no question but that the
construction of this highway through
Tillman county would be the best
thing that could happen to the coun-
ty and-wecan well afTord to do om
part in its construction” ‘
The club voted 625 to be added
to 650 appropriated by the chamber
of commerce to be offered by the
county home demonstration agent
Mrs Eva M Mosteller as prizes for
best records made by women’s clubs
