No Chinese Typewriter
Typewriters are now made for
use in nearly a hundred different
languages and they are sold all
ovir the world but there is one
great nation which for a very
simple re: son has no typewriters
that write its tongue That na-
tion is China
The English alphabet has
twenty-six letters The type-
writer produced for the Russian
market is the largest made but
no typewriter could be made that
could begin to be big enough for
the Chinese language which is
represented by sign characters
of which there are about 50000
Of the great number of words
found in the English language
only a small proportion are used
for the ordinary purposes of
speech and the same is true of
the characters used in the Chi-
nese language but the number
of Chinese characters commonly
employed is still far greater than
could be put on any typewriter
So this nation of 400000000 has
no typewriter in its own tongue
But that does not mean that
no typewriters are sold in China
More and more Chinese are
learning other languages besides
their own and many Chinese
mei chants use typewriters
Belled Crow Appears
Out East of Duncan
B F McLendon who lives out
east of town told the Banner
Saturday that his boys had seen
a belled crow on his place a day
or two previously and he is
anxious to know if the bird had
been a pet or was caught in some
way and belled The crow ap-
peared at Mr McLendon’s place
and his son got close enough to
discover the bell which was the
kind usually used on turkeys
and could plainly hear its tinkle
as the crow hopped about on a
fence It appeared to be parti-
ally tamed as though having
been raised by some one
Anyone knowing anything
about the crow its history past
or present owners or claimants
are requested to notify t’e Ban-
ner Only One Voting Box
for the General Election
In order that money may be
saved the city in the bolding of
the general election April 6th
only one box or voting place has
been designated The polls will
be established at the city hall
and voters from all four wards
will cast their ballots at that box
A recent order of the supreme
court according to our- informa-
tion gives charter cities the
privilege of naming their voting
places and as the Duncan chart-
er provides for just one election
precinct this ruling will be
followed a week from next Tues-

Hogs Better Than Cotton
Chas N Bancroft of Bick-

the latter part of November
1907 says the Watonga Herald
bought a brood sow for $15 and
between that date and December
1913 sold over $5000 worth of
hogs from her and her offspring
Notwithstanding the fact that
he had to buy most of the grain
with which to finish them and
was forced during the early part
of this period to sell some of the
hogs at $525 a hundred his net
