Kansas Citt Kan Oct 29— The
Kausas State League of Local Build-
ing and Loan x’iations held Its third
annual meeting yesterday Officers
for the next year were elected as fol-
lows: C H llartough Leavenworth
president J S Edwards Leavenworth
necretary and treasury The principal
feature of the proceedings was the
discussion of needed legislation rela-
tive to building and loun associations
The committee on legislation waa in-
structed to draft a bill and have it in-
troduced in the next legislature The
Kansas law It is said is prac-
tically worthless as it offers
no protection whatever to share-
holders in the associations against
fraudulent enterprises and dis-
honest officials The committee is to
prepare a bill embodying all the es-
sential and best features of all the
building and loan laws of the different
states and make It a model law There
are now 500 charters in the state but
only abont 80 of the associations are
actively at work With u good law
which will give ample protection to
shareholders there is no reason why
every town should not have at least
one association The next meeting of
the state league will lo held at Pitts-
burg next year
