Oklahoma Historians Hall of Fame-
C.W. "Dub" West

Delivered at the OHS Annual Meeting Awards Banquet, April 19, 1996
The last inductee for 1996 is C.W. "Dub" West. Born in 1908 in the
Territory of New Mexico, he spent his early career as a teacher,
rising from the classroom to superintendent. An Eagle Scout, Dub
became a scoutmaster as soon as he could, and was drawn into the
Scouts as a professional. It is our good fortune that he was hired as
field executive in Muskogee in 1937, a position he held until 1973.
During his tenure, more than 40,000 boys received the benefits of
scouting.
His civic involvements are too numerous to list. Let it suffice
that if there has been a good cause in Muskogee, Dub was and is
there.
His service, fortunately, has included state and local history. As
a volunteer, he has interviewed more than 1,000 pioneers, re-
corded more than 300 on audio tape, and captured more than 150
video tapes. He is the author of more than thirty books, twenty of
which focus on state and local history. He has written a weekly
column on local history for years, and more recently he has worked
to keep the Oklahoma Historical Society's Thomas-Foreman House
open to the public.
It is people such as Dub West, our grassroots historians, who
add so much to the presentation and understanding of Oklahoma
history. The following represents the published works of C.W.
"Dub" West.
