Should the efforts of the citi-
zens of this section of the coun-
ty to have a new county created
succeed it will not increase the
tax rate a particle The terri
tory to be taken from Comanche
county pays more than half the
taxes of the entiie county and
derives almost no benefit from
the county government under
present conditions as not a dol-
lar of the county funds have
been expended for public im-
provements in the entire area
and we furnish less than 15 per
eent of the criminal business of
the county We are not sur-
prised that the enemies of the
flew county should start the cry
Of high taxes but it will not
avail them anything The
amount of taxes paid by this end
of the county is so outrageously
lout of proportion to the benefits
received that those who are es-
pecially interested in having this
money spent in Lawton will re-
ceive scant courtesy from those
who pay the taxes south of the
base line in Comanche county

Xmas Come and Gone
Xmas like all other eventful
dates causes us all to reflect
more or less upon the past and
meditate upon the prospects and
possibilities of the future But
as Xmas is so ciosely connected
with so many things that are
sacred to us all we have more
deep thoughts of ' joy and grief
upon Xmas than any other day:
-Hundreds and?-thousands of
souls have gone to and from
their homes to celebrate the
most' sacred holiday on earth
the day set aside for the celebra-
tion of the birth of Christianity
Those great Christian prinoi
pies which are too broad to lie
exclusively between the lids of
of any book which’ are too broad
to lie exclusively within the
creeds of any church and are
too great to come exclusively
from the lips of any pulpit ora-
tor but are where Christ im-
planted them and designed his
Kingdom should be in the
hearts of men Christianity like
a grain of mustard Rood wns

once embodied in one being and
has been working upon the
hearts of mankind for two thous-
and years like yeast in a mass
of dough and although we see
mistifications erected around us
that seems to be and are alto-
gether wrong Although justice
is often upon the scaffold while
tyrants are upon thelhrone yet
js the working of this great spir
it sepiarating the sediment of
mankind from -the pure and in
God’s own time will he move -all
injustice from our : midst In
spite of all that can and wijl
come mankind is 1 marching
through progress toward per
fection and the world is better
today than it ever was before -
Before Christianity y as taught
throughout the land you could
fia vefreedom of speech and free-
dom of actionmeant ony when you
decided with the Majority But
at the present time no matte?
what vocation in-life we choose
es- we- follow- each- day’s duties
receive the mercies that we
bestow-:
- The gift of Christianity to
the- world has -prompted us - all
to raise countless Xmas trees'
decorate them with numberless
presents and the mail service
has groaned with the burden of
carrying presents which are
filled with love to our friends
Christianity the golden ' rule
and Sermon on the Mount helps
the children to bave good pa-
rents which they all ought to
have They help the youth tp
see their folly and affirm’ alle-
giance to the right - They help
the aged to enjoy their feeble
days -and live again the I scenes
of tiie past
But ubon this Xmas day
amidst all our joy and happiness
whether we are identified with
divines or the indifferent We
have all at moments felt the
pangs of sorrow and bowed our
heads and asked the questions
Why are not those with us that
were a year or more ago? Why
are not things and conditions as
we hoped and dreamed they
would be ' My friends it is only
our part in the play of the great
drama of human life and we
must submit to the inevitable
Let us believe that our light af-
flictions will work out for us a
far more exceeding way of Glory
and shoulder the burdens of thn
glad New Year as better men
and better women
