JUDGE VRIGIIT GETS
TEN YEAR SEIITBICE
' 111 PEIi FOR PERJURY
Charge Grew Out of Teutimoay
I Elkina Murder Case Gim
I Notice of Appeal
OKLAHOMA CITY May 18—
(Special) — Judge Lucicn B Wright
of Sapalpa wai sentenced to ten
years in the state penitentiary by O
L Price district judge for perjury
in the trial of Charles Elkins for the
slaying of J H Ferguson Wright
testified that he did not witness the
shooting' The jury was out three
hours and fifteen minutes Wright
announced an appeal
The case was regarded as an over-
whelming victory for J K Wright
county attorney who won his case
against Wright when he was opposed
‘ by ten of the most able attorneys in
the state headed by Charles E Mc-
Fberren of Durant
Wright testified that he had gone
to the house on West Main street
whre Ferguson was killed but that
- he had not witnessed the shooting
When Elkins was convicted the
county attorney immediately filed
charges of perjury against the district
judge
Wright's Defense Strong
Wright produced several character
witnesses during his trial but Mrs
- Rosa Walker proprietor of the house
in which the killing took place who
made the original declaration that
Wright witnessed the entre affair
refuted his testimony
There was a difference of thirty
inches in the place where Wright de-
clared he stood when the fatal
shot was fired and the place where
Mrs Walker declared he stood If
Mrs Walker’s contention was correct
It was shown that Wright would have
Witnessed the shooting
Both testified they had been Bitting
bn a bed in Mrs Walker's room a
short time before the shooting
Wright Present She Shows
The killing arose from a partner-
ship in the automobile protective asso-
ciation which Elkins and Ferguson
conducted and which later was brok
en Buck Garrett ‘at one time was
the peresident of that association
The quarrel which was declared to
have led directly to the shooting
however was over a woman whose
name never was mentioned in the
case
Wright had been wih Elkins for
some time before the shooting' and
had accompanied him to the house
Several witnesses testified that drink-
ing had been going on
