Recently a committee was ap-
pointed in Jefferson county to in-
vestigate tne bhipment of booze
into that county from Texas
In due time thl committee made
its report which was filed with
the county clerk A few days
later the clerk’s office was enter-
ed and the report was stolen
which leads the Ryan Leader to
suspect there is something “rot-
ten in Denmark” The prohibi-
tion question is a big one in JeffT
erson and other border counties
and it will not be remedied until
some of the big bootleggers like
Lee Harris and his gang are
cleaned out by the Federal au-
thorities and mark our word
they will be taken into custody
before they are aware of what

are as dissatisfied with their con-
ditions as many of their neigh-
bors are An old man who had
lived at Marlow went to the court
house and delivered his opinion
in a very emphatic manner as to
his treatment and stated that it
was his intention to go to Law-
ton where they have a better
poor house There are many
people who are in dire need and
want to help make their living
but are too proud to go to a poor
house such as Stephens county
has
Itjsjpot the intention of the
Eagle to arouse unjust suspicion
but to save our life we couldn’t
keep from commenting on the
fact that the Republican and
Socialist parties held their state
conventions in the same city
convening and adjourning the
same days We have too much
confidence in these honorable
organization to even think that
they met there at the same time
and not far apart except by the
merest chance biit would like to
take this opportunity to warn
our fellow democrats to take an
inventory of the political wood-pile

-There was a hot fight in the
Socialist State Convention at Ok-

assessing office holders of that
faith on their salary to pay for
propaganda If the proposition
had been to assess the candidates
for office we can well imagine
the howl that would have gone
up but as it specifically men-
tioned office holders we don’t see
where any of them had reason to
kick against the chance of having
to contribute
