Many Seeking Salvation
The City of Cherokee Shaken by a Religious
Wave that is Causing Even the Most
Hardened Sinner to do a Whole
Lot of Serious Thinking
THE HAND OF GOD IS MANIFEST
Never in the history of Chero-
Tcee has there been such' a dem-
onstration in religious work as
lias been manifested the past
two weeks Men who have
been unbelievers as well as those
who have heretofore not given a
serious thought to the future
have came forward and announc
ed that they were going to be
better men arid show to the
world by their actions that they
are in earnest
These meetings are being con-
ducted by the Cherokee Gospel
Team which does not represent
-any religious sect or denomina-
tion just a band of men who
-are preaching Jesus Christ and
and Christ crucified and that He
died to save those who' were
willing to accept Him
The work that is being done
in Cherokee is reaching out to
the neighboring towns that arei
organizing for the great work of
aavijig men's souls
' The interest manifested has
been of such great volume that
the Grand Opera House with its
immense capacity was secured
for the Sunday night meetings
and even then all could not gain
admittance several hundred be-
ing unable to find even standing
room On Sunday night at the
meeting in the opera house there
were 91 conversions at the
church Monday night there were
about 50 and at the same place
Tuesday night there were 24 At
the opera house meeting Wed-
nesday night there were just ex-
actly 50 and the end is hot yet
It is Hie determination that
Cherokee and vicinity shall set a
world’s record and it is evident
this will be the result
Following is a list of those
who have thus far announced
that they have accepted Jesus
Christ as a personal Savior and
the Messenger sincerely wishes
that they will all “make- good”
and henceforth lead lives that
will not only be a credit to them-
selves the community in whieh
they live but to any church or-
ganization with which they may
affiliate and an honor to the God
whom they profess to love:

CHIEF JUSTICE
Aspiration for the Senate of the United States is commendable
in any man In such aspiration Judge Sam Hayes presents to the
Democracy of Oklahoma an opportunity to choose for that respon-
sible duty a man who is especially fitted by past service character
and ability to grace the position with honor and efficient service
in every respect He is at the present Chief Justice of the Su-
preme Court of Oklahoma and it is conceded that his service in
this responsible position has been of the highest character and in-
estimable value He is a man of sterling worth and whose life
has been'ohe of industry arid uncompromising 'honor His value
to the people of this great state has never in all probability been
fully appreciated As a member of the Constitutional Convention

ing the legal preceedure from Territorial to State Government a

range vision The work has been commended in the highest
terms from all sources regardless of political affiliation and stands
as a mark of merit much greater than ever appreciated

The February number of Holland’s
Magazine published at Dallas Texas
which has just been issued announces
that Mangum won the title of being of
being the cleanest town in Okla-
homa in a contest conducted by that
magazine and that as a reward it will
receive a sanitary drinking fountain
for each of the four public school build-
ings in the city
This contest was inaugurated last
spring by the magazine and is the sec-
ond one to be instituned Last year the
contest was confined to Texas towns
but this year they included Oklahoma
making a separate district and admit-
ted citiea in Oklahoma between 2500
and 5000 population Eight bklahoma
cities entered the contest md when
the first inspection was made early in
October four of them early in October
four of them were tied for first place
necessitating a second inspection On
the last inspection Mangum won out
over its nearest opponent by a margin
of one half of a point Mangum scored
915 the highest score recorded by any
city either in Texas or Oklahoma
To Apprise Santa Fe Right of
Way
G A Fell of Cherokee and W A
Glasgow of Helena have been appoint-
ed by- the Corporation Commission to
appraise the right of way of the Santa
Fe railroad in Alfalfa county same to
be appraised at same value of lands ly-
ing adjacent to the railroad The price
affixed by these gentlemen will be us-
ed in court when the two cent fare
case comes up for final hearing as the
Santa Fe claims they can not afford to
carry passengers for two cents a mile
on account of the high cost of their
roadbed equipment etc the Corpora-
tion Commission thinks different how-
ever and will attempt to ahw that the
value the railroad place ofi its road
equipment etc ia too high and that
they can pay a good profit on the actu-
al investment and still carry passeng
era at two cent a mile’ ' ‘
Cheaper Oil
When Col A P Watson of the
Corporation Commission was here last
week he made the statement that aa
yet they had not issued an order rela-
tive to the price of oil but they would
soon It ia the intention to make the
price uniform all over the state mak-
ing a price for which it must be sold at
the refinery and then merely add the
freight to it when it is shipped out
This according to the price contem-
plated would put oil on the market at
Cherokee at about eight cents per gal-
lon Let’er come we like that kind of
a noise
