Death of G T Wade
C T Wade a well known res-
dent of the town of Dougherty
in this county died at a hospital
in St Louis Mo Jan 24th 1920
of general debility He was
born in Arcade N Y Feb 24th
1873 and therefore lacked only
one month of being 47 years old
He was an expert telegraph 'op-
erator and worked for a number
of years for the Pennsylvania
railroad in and out of Buffalo
N Y In the year 1900 he came
to Oklahoma and commenced
work for the Santa Fe railroad
first at Ardmore where he was
ticket agent and telegraph oper-
ator Feb 1st 1902 he was ap-
pointed agent at Dougherty
where he has since resided He
also bought some of the govern-
ment tracts of land near Dough-
erty and some bottom land ad-
joining the village about 1200
acres in all
About 1912 on account of ill
health he was obliged to give up
his railroad service but he con-
tinued to look after his farm He
had become so feeble last spring
that he was obliged to sell his
farm and for the most of the
summer and fall wa3 in a hospit-
al at St Louis Early in Janu-
ary he went to Hot Springs Ark
but not being able to get the
treatment he desired went back
to St Louis but only lived four
or five days afterward
His father W W Wade of
Dougherty was with him all this
time and when he passed away
to his heavenly home He had
the remains embalmed and plac-
ed in the mausoleum of the un-
dertaking company where he
will be kept until the middle of
April when he will be taken to
the state of New York to be
buried beside his mother in the
family lot in the cemetery It
will be remembered that his
mother died three years ago the
3rd of last November and was
then taken back there and buried
C T Wade was a single man
their only child so his father is
now all alone the only remain-
ing member of the family
The deceased was a member
in good standing of the Arcade
lodge No 419 A F & A M of
Arcade N Y and was insured
in the Masonic Life Insurance
Co of Buffalo N Y for $2000
in favor of his father

EMILY WATERMAN
In Comedy Pose “Betey Bobbitt
Wherever Emily Waterman goes
they never stop talking about her
And just as sure as she appears on
the local Lyceum Course just that
sure you will never forget her
Emily Waterman is one of those in-
imitable entertainers that one is priv-
lllged to enjoy but once In a very great
while She just runs over with fun
Her personality takes hold of one as
Blanche Ring's does She instantly
"gets across" with any audience
Many of Miss Waterman's offerings
are dignified and Quite apart from
comedy She excels in both the-seri-ous
and the comic
In her program she features a Pen-
rod story by Booth Tarkington “Mu-
sic" a sample of Irvin S Cobb’s de-
lightful humor “An Idle Woman's
Busy Day” and “Limerickitis" a mu-
sical “spasm”

Resolutions of Respect
The Needlework Club mourns
the loss of one of its dearly loved
members— Mrs M T Easter
“who crossed the Bar” Jan
30th 1920
She had been a member only
one year serving as secretary
faithfully We had known her
as an ideal citizen as a loyal
friend as one who had gained
the respect of the old and the
love of little children one who
lived well laughed often and
loved much She never lacked
appreciation of earth’s beauty
or failed to express it She al-
ways looked for the best in
others and gave the best she
had Her life was an inspira-
tion and her memory is a bene-
diction “No duty could overtask her
No need her will out run
Or ever our lips could ask her
Her hands thetask had done”
We did not need to know her as
a club member to endear her to
us but we shall feel that our
club has lost an efficient member
an earnest worker in all that per-
tained to its welfare
‘‘A lady with a lamp shall stand in the
great history of the land
A noble type of good heroic woman-
hood ’ ’
Therefore be it resolved that
we the Needlework Club have
lost in Mary DeVaney Easter a
noble character broad in her
services unselfish in her spirit
Be it resolved further that
each club member shall ever hold
dear and sacred the memory of
her life— that of service to others
Be it further resolved that we
extend consolation and cheer to
the sorrowing relatives May
the Angel of Peace help to com-
fort them in their sad hour
Be it fnrther resolved that
these resolutions be sent to the
Davis News and a copy of the
paper be sent to her old home at
Tuscumbia Ala

game was very close from the
start Although the Davis boys’
team work was superior to that
of the visitors their inability
to short baskets kept their
score much lower than it
should have been Our team is

How to Have Plenty of Early
Tomatoes
Plow the ground early to get
rid of the cut worms as far as
possible Fertilize with well-
rotted manure Have the ground
ready by 20th of March and send
south to some reliable plant com-
pany for the plants They can
be had for $2 per thousand plants
Several neighbors can club to-
gether and buy just a3 many as
they want The Earliana June
Pink McGee and Champion
Dwarf are all good early variety
I think the Earliana is the best
If you set out but few plants
say 200 or 300 you can turn tin
cans over them in case of dan-
ger of frost
Set the plants not less three
feet apart each way stake and
prune and you will have ripe to-
matoes by the middle of June
It is too slow to undertake to
grow your own plants for the
dry season is usually on before
your tomatoes begin to mature
All who try this will please
not forget that I like tomatoes
