DEMOCRATS MET
AT ARNETT
The democratic central committee
of Ellis county met at Arnett Sat-
urday June 18tli The meeting
was well attended every section of
the County being represented It
was the most enthusiastic meeting
of the committee ever held iii the
county There was quite a nutnber
of candidates present and ali ex-
pressed themselves as being confi-
dent of a democratic victory at the
polls in November
The voting down of the Railroad
Amendment at the last election
proves that Haskell democracy is
very much alive in Ellis County
A committee was called for the
purpose of drafting resolutions en-
dorsing the present democratic ad-
ministration The committee was appointed
and the following resolutions were
read and adopted
The democratic party of itllis
County at Arnett in mass meeting
assembled do hereby endorse the
democratic administration of the
State of Oklahoma and especially
endorse the efforts of the Governpr
and his legal staff in their efforts to
reduce taxes by their efforts to col-
lect a just and equitable tax on cor-
porations While the republicans
from the Federal Judges down to
the County Attorney is trying to
defeat the payment of corporation
taxes We further endorse the re-
cent action of Gov C N Haskell
in out witing the old carpet h&g
bunch at Guthrie who had their in-
junction petitions prepared and
ready to file before the voting was
over on Jane 11th and removed
the State Capitol to Oklahoma City
where the voters of the sta'-o- had
placed it by their ballots

get a stray horse into a corral was
thrown from the animals back the
horse then stumblecKand fell on him
and crushed his life out almost in-
stantly He was buried in the Hig-
gins cemetery Monday at two o’clock
p m A short song - service was
held at the Porter home before
starting for the cemetery One of
the songs sung was Earl’s favorite
‘Looking This Way” At the cem-
etery funeral services were conduct-
ed by Rev’s Crane and Winfield

low and well liked by all both old

JAIL BIRDS
ESCAPE
Last Sunday night the three pris-
oners confined in the county jail
broke the door down and quit town
without leaving their address or
telling anybody wheru they wore
going This is a common occur-
rence in Arnett and the citizens
have got so they expect the jail
birds to break out a few days be-
fore court sets so the occurrence
last Sunday night was no surprise
to our people
The jail is a rickety old contrap-
tion and the officers of the law are
unable to keep prisoners confined in
it who have any desire to get out
The prisoners making their es-
cape were: Marshall Gregory held
on a charge of embezzlement 10 G
MuNeely disposing of mortgaged
property and Johnson held
under a commitment from the Jus-
tice of the Peace at Fargo
