When the last census was given
out, It was shown that Grady county
«as entitled to a Superior court. The
courts of Grady county are not
crowded. No one Is languishing In
Jail because he cannot get trial. ^ A
Superior court is not needed In Gra-
dy eounty. This was the view the
county commissioners took of the
matter and almost a month ago they
sen! a message to the governor which

"We. the Grady county commis-
si hereby petition your excel-
lency not lo appoint a Judge to the
Superior court In Grady county for
the reason that we believe that it is
not necessary and not warranted by
the state of tlie court dockets In tills
eounty. We are .familiar with the
court dockets 'here and we believe
that the appointment of a Superior
judge in this county would tax the
people of Oklahoma and ibis eounty
unnecessa rlly.

poor guess when it stated that Vice
President Sherman is billed to speak
only 'in Bird McGuire's district and
•hat "Bird is the only Oklahoma
•ongressman who cuts any ice in
Washington." Mr. Sherman will
make two speeches in the Second
congressional district of Oklahoma
and Mr. Morgan, who represents this
district, cut considerable ice in
Washington in the last session
Congress. In fact, it is doubtful it
;he records will wliow tihat any first
termer lias ever accomplished more
for his constiltuen-ts than did Dick
T Morgan, and that's why the peo-
ple of this district are going to send
him hack to Washington for another
term.

rate of taxation with which the peo-
ple of Oklahoma have been burdened
since the first state administration
came into power, some of the "me
too" curbstone orators are trying to
make it appear t'hat the state au-
thorities are not to blame at all. but
that county and city taxis have in-
creased enormously wilhin the past
three years.
While it iB a fact that city and
county taxes are in many instances
tligher now than ever before, even
thi.' may be traced direct!v to the
way in which the laws enacted by twe

[ the governor has added an additional
*tax burden of $8,000 to the tax pay-
erg of Grady county, as todd by the
Chickasha Journal
"During the First Legislature a
bill was passed giving the Governor
the right to appoint a Superior Judge
for counties where the court business
of the county warranted It. .This
was passed with the emergency
clause. The bill was passed presum
ably to give the Governor authority
to appoint a Superior Judge in Mus-
kogee county, where ii was said thai
the regular court dockets were very
much crowded.
Soon after the bill was passed
squabble arose in Muskogee county
over t'he appointment. So many men
, got out for the office that the govern

Mrs. Marion S. Cooter, who has
spent the summer in tlie east with
her daughter, Vivian, will leave Bos-
ton next Monday and arrive here the
middle of the week. She has placed
Miss Vivian in a private home in
Brookline, one of the fashionable
surburbs of the city, where she will
live while studying music during the
winter. Miss Cooter lias been for-
tunate in being accepted by one of
the most noted instructors of voice
culture in the city, who takes only
a limited number of pupils and only
those who give promise of unusual
