TO THE REDBUD
Florence Gibbs
You are the spirit of spring
In the Fair God s crested land.
Where canyons are guttered deep,
You rest your rosy hand.
You are the spirit of joy
When the earth is pale and gray,
And in the desolate places
You thrive where nene ivill stay.
What the rhododendron brings
To the land of the Smoky Blue
What the pearly dogwood gives
To others, we find in you.
W ithin a barren world
You bloom triumphantly
And about you there's something divine
Though they call you the Judas tree.
