I of the present day schools or colleges
'lor boys of the same age Recording
to Lieut. Cot."0. A. F. Trumbo com-
mander. In a letter to the Ardmorelte
last week.
The letter as a whole deals with the
moral conditions in the camp during
the stay of the civilians who will be in
training thero. Following is the letter;
To the parents of the young men who
are taking the red white and blue
courses at the Citizens' Military Train-
ling Camp Ft. Sill Lawton Okla.
July 27th to August 26 1922 and who
are fearful that their sons will not be
protected against vices of all kinds I
desire to reach the reading public and
parents of these young men through
the columns of your valuable paper
and to assure thein moat emphatically
that evory protection will be afforded
them and that they will be as well
Jroteoted there as they will be In their
own homes. The United States war
department baa taken every precau-
tion possible in the following ways. At
the Ft. Silt camp there will be a Catho-
lic and Protestant chaplain from the
regular army and the Jewish welfare
board will make special provisions for
the Hebrew students. Their duties are
to took after the moral and religious
Welfare of the members of their re-
spective sects.
Hostesses on Camp.
As - further moral lnfluonces there
are employed additional hostesses at
the camp. The hostesses are refined
ladies especially Instructed and experi-
enced In moral welfare work. They
have charge of the hostess house and
act as chaperones and suporvise gath-
erings and entertainments In the camp.
Now as to liquor gambling prostitutes
trying to force their way Into camp 1
can assure that every step within the
power of the officers at the camp will
be taken to exclude undesirable persons
and influences." It Is not physically
possible to guarantee that no bootleg-
:eers or prostitutes will gain access to
boys who are disposed to voluntarily
search for such entertainment.
. The measure for maintaining disci-
pline at the camp will be on a more
effective scale than the standard of
the present day schools or colleges for
boys of the same age. These measures
Include the following among others:
(a) Orders enforced by regular army
military guards prohibiting the Intro-
auction of liquor by bootleggers or oth.
erwise into camps on military reserva-
tions. (b) Lectures on continence social
vices and self-control. '
ic) Detail of a chaperone with vari-
ous assistants to each camp.
(d).. Detail of officers of the regu-
lar army and reserves for duty as In.
structors in the proportion of about one
officer for 20 students. Reserve offi-
cers will be selected from professional
educators who are high school or col-
lege teachers.
le) Organization of mass games with
competitions and entertainments.

HITS BUILDING
U
THRO
OH COUNTY
Lumbermen See no Reduction
of Price Before Winter;
No Effect of Strike
Seen in Business.
Ardmore Is now experiencing ' the
greatest building slump of the past
twelve months according to building
permit records at Inspector Lewis Da-
vidson's office. Only four permits witb
a total expenditure of $7200 have been
Issued during twenty days of July com-
pared with 28 permits for the same
month of last year. Permits for June
approximated 885000 while those of the
three proceeding months ranged about
the $75000 mark. Total permits issued
last year u mounted to $392902.
In spite of the fact that lumber Is
about flv per cent higher than It has
been for some time local building ma-
terial dealers stoutly deny that fluc-
tuations In the market are responsible
for a slump In building activities. Only
the usuul summer slack-up In residence
building ccupled With the strikes and
uncertain conditions tend to keep build-
ing where It Is dealers all agree.
"With the exception of lumber which
is about five per cent higher other
building mutetrials are remaining steady
Q. S. Wells of the Hudson-Houston Lum
ber compary stated. "While building
now Is rather slow as Is the caie always
at this time of the season I expect
business to show a remarkable in-
crease about the middle of September."
Glen Cornwell of the Cornwell-ChoWf
ning Lumber company declared that
while llttlo building Is going on that the
demand for lumber and building ma-
terials Is holding Its own. He asserted
that lumber Is now going at a prem-
ium bringing a steady price during the
strike. While he admitted that the lum-
ber market has fluctuated considerably
in the last twelve months Mr. Cornwell
said he bflived the price would show
little change within the next sixty or
ninety duys.
