AGAINST THE (10 ERNMF.NT
After hibernating for a period of I
practii.tlly three years the Socialist!
evil has again broken forth with it-1
newed enemy and is directing its
attacks at the foundation of the gov-
ernment against the Constitution t.f
the United States and against the
laws under which the members of
thit party live and are protected in
the some name cn.o.lunately as are
loyal and country-loving meuibois of
society protected.
When this nation wus at war with
Germany and the gates of ti e peni
tentiaries stood a.ur the Sociuliit
serpent fearing the bmis'ng hee! of
the law passed frrm the po sen-
.anged venemous r?ptile into the
Bleeping creature of slime witii laugh
concealed but not drawn.
Now that the wr is ended uni
this country is passing through the
throes of reconstru..ion the reptile
is awakening from his shammed sleep
and is coiling ready to strike with
head thrown Imc'-i with fangs tirio-
ping venom with the mask of loalty
cast aside a rep'lca of the hooded
serpent of India the po'sonous copra
de capela.
Advertising their contempt for the
law blatant with their desire to over-
throw all legal government tho mem-
liers of that party of disloyalty have
nominated Eugene V. Debs a man
ocnvlcted of syndicalism which is
but a modified name for treason and
now serving a term in tho federal
prlscn In atonement for the crime
which would have cost him his life
in ar.y other notion than the United
States. Tho members of this party
hnve nominated this leader of social
rebellion for the honorable und ex-
alted position of President of the
greatest republic in the known world
blKtantly advertising by this art their
contempt for a1 government for all
society.
And with the knowledge that th
government wliirh they are seeking
to overthrow is the mont lenient one
in the wond Socl U.s; wp II -binder.-
are igiin parading their disloyalty
before the public us devoid of shame
as are the scarlet women who pedulo
their charms to the debased and de-
praved of the opposite sex.
Is it nut time a hull wits called
upon tins evil? Is it not time for
the law-abiding country-loving citizens
to invoke the law against those who
feel no respect for law? ' Is it not
time for the axe. to be laid to the root
of the tree ' which is rotting and
spreading disease aiming the other
trees of the social forest?
The government pays out millions
of dollars each year for the suppres-
sion of social diseases physical dis-
cises wli'ch sap the life from th"!
individuals of our eili-enry yet it
smiles shrubs Its shoulders and is
tolerant v-uh the ones who ure spread-
ing a social disease which Is incurable
a sociitl li"uase which threatens the
inoculation of the government itself.
When this nation is at war and
the disloyalist walks abroad in the
land he is d"cmcd guilty of treason.
He Is guilty of treason and as a
truiter is punished. The man who
hibernates and concea's the traitorous
impulses of his heart when his coun-
try Is at war and then alter peace
teigns once more .comes bodily lorth
and attacks his country's government
his country's Institutions is just as
much a traiior as lie would have been
had he sUxxl upon the street corners
reviling his country and betraying
it to the enemy while the lords of
war dominated tho nations of the
earth; ho is a traitor to the Constitu
tion of tho United States tho C'on-
Htitution which protects him and gives
him a homo and a right to live be-
neath the flag of America a-id us
a traitor he should be dealt with.
There can be no middlo course
which can be traveled with safety;
there can be no middle path along
which the law may be routed; theiv
can be no compromise which can
be honorably effected. Loyalty to
country cannot be argued cannot be
debated can only be dealt with in
one way. D'sloyalty to country is a
crime the unpardonable sin against
any nation. It is n crime which can-
not be condoned a crime which can
not be compromised. And the safety
of the institutions of this great
ration dep-nds upon I he firm hand
which will grasp the traitors of this
oV' ot pe;i'v. and deal with them as
firmly and as uncompromisingly as
they should have bten dealt with
while the bo;s of America were car-
rying the doe'rines of democracy and
the salvation of the civllired world
upon the point of the bayonet to tbe
v: r sw"pt nations of Europe.
News dispatches convey the informa-
tion thnf the national S-cc.al.t party Is
even now preparing propaganda mil-
lions cf copies of treasonable pamph-
l"ts to be scattered broadcast through-
out tho li nd during the next few
months. These same dispatches state
that the Socialist party leaders wiil
Rend spfakers to Oklahoma speakers
p attack and vlllify and malign the
country who-e laws enable them to
Hvo outside the prison cells into which
ihey would be hurled in any country
less tolerant than in the United States.
Uss in the manner in which they deal
with ibis threatened Invasion of the
hor.les of poison-tongued orators j
should they really come into this state
scattering their sevds of dissension j
and disloyalty. j
Men who have ranked hish in the
councils ol the nation yet who have
sought to cndone the i rimes of the
disloyalist" who have even gone so
fur as to write messages of good
ch er and good fellowship to some
of thos suspected during the war
when the long arm of the law had
reached forth and the strong bund
of punishment was seeking to bring
the offenders to the whipping post
of justice should not be afforded a
chance to spread the salve of toler-
ance upon the oread which the trial
juries eat but be treated with the
sime stern Justice which the safety
cf America's institutions demands
should be shown the offenders against
the nation's government.

Oklahoma has laws which should

to conform with the requirements of
the state constitution which in turn
conforms with the regulations and re-
auiicments of the Constitution ot the

On June IS tho Daily Oklahoman
published what purported to be an
apology to Senator Gore. The article
was entitled. "Amende Honorable"
and in it the newspaper was repre-
sented as retracting many statements
it has made against the senator.
Two days later after running down
the evident in the case the Oklaho-
man printed in a most conspicuous
manner on its front page complete
exposure of one of tho most vicious
shyster tricks ever perpetrated in the
history of Oklahoma politics. It was
shown that the so-called apology was
surreptitiously slipped into the Okla-
homan by a dischargid employe of
its editorial department who was serv-
ing us a press agent of the Goru
campaign. The former employe on
the stand in the olice court where
he was arraigned on a charge of
drunkenness ndrr.ittcd that he had
heen employed us a Gote press agent
since he was discharged by the Okla-
homnn and that he was responsible
for the f ike apology that was inserted
ir. tho paper.
It woiild have been possible for the
Gore campaign managers to deny
responsibility for the nc'. of their
press agent but they didn't do it and
even though they had it would have
t.vailid them nothing in the light of
the subsequent use tfiat has been
made of the fake urlicle. What did
they do with it?
We huve received a copy of u four-
page pamphlet containing a reprint of
the fake apology which the Gore
press agent wrote and put into the
Oltlahomun and also a lot of com-
ment on the alleged retraction. "The
Daily Oklahoman now retracts and
h.'imls the lie driuct to Scott Ferris
and the bun.h of politicians who have
the discredit of authorship of the
he" declares the pamphlet.
In this pamphlet there is not the
slightest hint that the Oklahoman
eter exposed the perfidy of its dis-
charged emoloye who w.is the paid
press agent of Gore; not a line to In-
d'entp tha. the paper ever repudiated
the alleged apology declaring it false
in every particular and vigorously re-
newing eviry charge it has ever made
.against Gore.
This pamphlet is being widely cir-
culated. Ly whom'.' Not by Ferris
supporters you may be sure; it can
be coming only from the Gore cam-
paign boosters. Did anybody ever
hear of a dirtier scheme to deceive
the voters of Oklahoma? Desperate
indeed must be the stra-ts of the
Core supporte.-s when they are driven
to descend to such low depths of men-
dacity and dishonorable tactics. Goie
goes about the stato with an air
of injured Innocence whining that
the politicians are lielng about him.
What does he call thi3 brazen piece

of bunc and mendicity? What will
the voters of Oklahoma think of tho
character of the men backing the
Gore campaign when this despicable
trick is brought to their attention?
Can any of the "dope" which tho
Gore campuign managers are sowing
broadcast over the state bo believed'
Mr. Gore's only hope in this cam-
paign is to got away from tho record
lie has made as a senator and ho can
in It only by deceiving the voters. Ap
the campaign nears the close in keep-
ing with their tactics all along we
may expect tho Gore supporters to
spring more canards like the fake apol-
ogy of the Oklahoman and it is well
to bo on the lookout for them.
The lawyer who appeared in court
to defend the cx-en.ploye of the Ok-
lahoman above referred to is the
naw partner of ono of the Oklahoma
cil millionaires" who is aiding Gore
in his campaign. Gore poses iw the
friend of the farmer but it is known
that he looked after the interests of
the oil millionaires so well that they
:re his firm friends; the fact is that
he succeeded in cutting down their
ineone and excess profits taxes all
in tho interest of tho farmers of
course. It Is costing a lot of money
to print and circulate these lieing
pamphlets and tons of other dope
of the same kind. Will oil influence
and deception be able to pull the
wool over the eyes of the people?
Chirkasha Express.
Some SUIe Paper?
Chlekasha Express: Senator Hard-
lug is certainly figuring on making
some speech of acceptance. He Is

hours a day on it.
What "Crowds" are For
Muskogee I'hoenix: Senator Harding
was no doubt sincere in wishing to
avoid the crowds on his way to Mar-
ion but what are crowds for if not to
gather around purty nominees?
Flirting With Republicans
Anudarko American-Democrat: Per-
haps Gore is seeking republican assist-
ance; perhaps he foresaw what Lodge
would say to the republican conven-
tion in his keynote speech; perhaps
that Is why he harps so much about
a "rubber-stamp" congressman. Lodge
snld: "Mr. Wilson and his dynasty
his heirs and assigns or anybody
that is his anybody who with bent
knee has served his purposes must
be ' driven from nil control from all
influence upon the government of the
United States.
A Winter of Discontent
Poteau News: With Johnson saving
the Republican convention was a steal
Borah being a still republican Bob La-
Follette heading a new party and
some of the leading Republicans at-
tending the Democratic convention n
delegates it begins to look like tho
Republicans ate now in the middle
of a hard winter of discontent. In
the meantime while Bryan says his
heart is in some kind of grave Reed
terming tho Democratic convention
an international convention of blind
staggers and other Democrats talking
of a new party it looks like some-
body has got to go to work or fool
somebody. However we still have thk
best end of the deal for we expected
our fellows to buck while the Hepub-
i lieans are losing their best men.
A POLITICAL BLI NDER
The Irony of fate and the uncertain-
ties rf po'itics are both illustrated In
what happened to the Owen candidacy
at San Francisco. The Muskogee plut-
forri was one of the strongest en-
dorsements of President Wilson that
has ever been written and is supposed
'.o have been written by Senator Owen
himself. Rut the senator seems tc
have becom convinced that Bryan's
suppoit would le s.i'fi.iunt to nume
the candidate of the convention. For
four months there has been an Indi-
cation thut Owen was courting the
favor of the Commone. arid many
Owen supporters have been fond of
saying that Owen would win because
he had the support of Bryan. So far
nfield did Owen go in search of Bryan
support that many of his friends
came to. consider him an opponent of
Wilson and almost as strong in h's
Opposition as Reed and Bryan. There
is no opposition or connection between
the declarations of I'us'ogee ar.d the
apparent attitude of Owen at San
Francisco. Then came the clesh at
the big convention and Bryan whose
favor Owen hod ho industriously court-
ed received the severest defeat of his
lifetime. At the final showdown Bry-
an's support wus valueless. Musko-
gee I'hoenix.

Our compliments to Cenutor Jame

that complete justice is done to a

He has been during his whole term

He served during the war the in-

served in addition the interests of oil
those without distinction of purpo:e
