The countryside s oke graphically
of the year's of revolution. Every-
body there were roofless and unoc-
cupied bouses which ha been the
homes of the wealthy and ranchers
in the days of peace. In the hamlet
'of Kunete Del India India where
! Carranza wa3 received by Gen. Chao
1 not a house was occupied. Not a
1 window remained In any of them
'an-1 all fchowed signs of previous
i battles.
j Delay first wan occasioned 'while
Ca r:ir.za waited for his. troop train
to catch up. This done other hours
were consumed while the soldiers
waited for new uniforms leggings!
an 1 hats. j
The pilot train -which preceded i
the troop train ran into town for!
the supplies and when it returned
th'-re was a gnat rcramble for the
out lit s. The brown mesa immedi-
ately became a clothing stor.e and
ho cars and the abandoned houses
were turned into dressing rooms.
Carranza Wildly Cheered.
It was dusk wlun the cavalcad-i
mourned once again and. conscious
of sartorial achievements started
on a lr-"t for the city. The s'reets
were illuminated and triumphal ar-
ches blazed with many colored in-
candescent bulbs.
At the iiionuninit Ceil. Carranza
was wildly cheered. He spoke in
acknowledgment of the welcome and
then repaired to the house set aside
for him in the Avinula Juarez. For-
merly it belonged to a Mexican
whose political affiliations were not
liked by the rebels and his property
was confiscated. Other speaker's
were Sylvcstre Terrazas secretary
of tho state of Chihuahua who spoke
on behalf of Gen. Villa; Gustavo
Padres mayor of Juarez and Fred-
erica Gonzales Garza counsellor! to
the military commander of the Jua-
rez garrison.
Gen. Carranza said he expected
to spend several days in Juarez
probably until the battle of TorrVon
is decided.

PELLAGRA GERM IN WATER.
Disease Neither Contagious Nor In-
curable Says Dr. Lambon.
Kome -March "'. Dr. I.itigi Lam-
bon of London is again in Italy to
prove his theory that pellagra a
disease akin to eb'phantiasis and
sometimes called Italian leprosy
is due to a parasite in potable wa-
ter. Dr. Lambon is widely known for
his studies of inula; ia. He has de-
voted five years to the study of
pellagra and he lias in his. employ
a ma-i servant pufferinc; from pel-
lagra on whom he is experimenting
to prove his theory that the disease
is neither contagions nor incurable.
Ho will devote his time here this
sp.'ing almost entirely to the studj
of infected water in the effort to
discover the supposed parasite and
find r. means of exterminating it.
It has been asset ted for years
that pellagra comes from excessive
consumption of Indian corn.
