Police today withheld details of u wrlt-
trn statement by Miss Helen O'Keefe,
30 blonde secretary charged with mur-
der In the Incineration of her em-
ployer. J C. Franklin, elderly invest-
nlent broker aud attorney
Marcus Burkett. 48, cafe operator,
and his cook. Ira C Latham. 38. whom
police questioned for several hours,
were described merely as witnesses -
liot us suspects. Burkett was released
but Latham remained In Jail to serve
out a fine for drunkenness
Police Lieut. A C. Thornton said
yesterday that Miss O'Keefe had con-
fessed verbally to hiring two men for
9100 to kill Franklin. She later denied
this story, he said.
Miss O'Keefe, a beuefioiary In
Franklin's Si>Q.0»X» Insurance policy,
was held In jftll without bond after
making a written statement in which
sh< denied, pollen chief Huy .Ashworth
said that site killed Franklin or had
hired anyone else to kill him.
Franklin's body, reduced to ashes.
