PAIR DROWN. CANOE CAPSIZES
LITTLE ROCK. Ark June 12. (IP)—
Eugene Marls. 24. and Miss 1,4abelle
Smith. 22. both of Little Rock, were
drowned last night when their canoe
oveturned in a lake 17 miles south-
east of here.
Two others riding In the canoe were
saved The canoe was a three-seat
type. The survivors said a strong wind
tipped the boat over. |
Occupants of the canoe were attend-
ing an outing of employes of a local
insurance company.

MENA, Ark.. June 12 OP)—The
Lauck Lumber mill failed to open
here today following announcement of
an indefinite shutdown last night as
a result of workers' demands for In-
creased wages.
The present wage scale Is 27 1-2
cents an hour. Workers are de-
manding 40 cents plus overtime The
company announced it was unable to
meet the demands

Bald Head Club of America, most of
whose members have no more than
a few simgs of hair, will observe the
sliver jubilee of its Inception here to-

Guest of honor will be Jim Rade-
meyei. retired editor of the Green-
wich Daily News-Graphic, who found-
ed the club in 1912 at Falls Village
when he was editor of th* Connecticut
Western News.
His Inspiration was a photograph of
six of the town's citizens, grouped on
the porch of the village clothing store,
"all of them bare-headed and bald-
headed”
