Governor Holloway s attitude on clemency is the attitude.
Oklahoma, however, will scarcely know how to take an official
who does not use lhe power of parole and pardon to the umit.
It is not the idea of the new governor to step into the shoes
ot the official who preceded him or the shoes of any other success-
ors. Holloway goes in with his own shoes on and declare* himseft
for this policy and that with a self assurancy that he is right and
that the ranks of the right are backing him.
Ihe new state executive declares that his attitude to clem-
ency will he rigid. No sentiment ot untenor motives will cause him
to rob justice of her desserts. That is a moat courageous and
worthy thing to say. Even if he partially fulfills this promise he
will .be deserving of commendation.
Thinking for himself, he will blaze a trail that will stand out
preeminently Holloway and he is slated to accomplish in the httie
lime left for him strokes hitherto i nknown at our capitol. Okla-
homa governors have been notoriously prone toward matters
that have brought about their ruin. Holloway bids fair to set up
a new regime.

A curious thing about us all is that we do not learn much
by experience. Experience, says Shaw, has little to do in influenc-
ing our action We are much more moved by our expectations. We
are always looking for something and we do all sorts of queer
things in the hope of finding it. .
It was Hegel. German philosopher, who said that the only
thing man learns by experience ii that man does not learn any-
thing by experience.
Hegel ha* said a lot and believe it or not his philosophy is
worthy of some serious thought. Learn by experience, they say
.Still so many things happen over and ever, so many of the same
kind of things, to the same people, the same kind of people and
in the same place.
Experience come* in for a lot of discussion, and stands tor a
lot ot morals but how many listen to the woes of the others and
how many know how to really describe what we term experience.
