LABORERS ON KING'S
ESTATE AS 8-HOUR DAY
LONDON. April 19.—Unskilled day
laborers on King George's estate at
Balmoral, Scotland, have petitioned
for an eight-hour day and $2 daily
pay.. They now get $9 a week and
work ten hours daily.
Recently when they petitioned the
king’s commissioner, Captain Ram-
say, for a wage boost they were
notified they could have a week's
notice or continue working ten hours
daily.
Ramsay says the men get more
than the general wage ruling in that
district for such work, the average
pay being 35 shillings weekly.
