KELLYVILLE - Head
Football Coach Jason Culler
submitted his resignation on
Tuesday after one year at the
helm of the Ponies football
program.
The Herald has con-
firmed that Culler will take
an administrative job in
Okmulgee, where he will
serve as the athletic direc-
tor and assistant principal.
"We really appreciate
the job he did with our loot-
ball program,” said
Kellyville Athletic Director
Mike Bilby. "Ol course it is
tough on our school to lose
three coaches in seven years,
however all three have left to
take administrative positions
and we certainly can not fault
an individual tor taking a posi-
tion that will further his career
and better his family."
Culler said in a phone inter-
view that it had been his plan
to at some point move into an
administrative position When
the opportunity came along, he
visited with his family and
decided that it was a good
opportunity and one that he
could not pass up.
Culler came to Kellyville
after serving as the Defensive
Coordinator at Bishop Kelly
High School.
He inherited a team that had
suffered through some 0-10
seasons and went to work on
restoring a winning attitude
anil tradition at Kellyville.
The Ponies went 3-7 in
Culler's only season, against
some of Oklahoma’s toughest
Class 3A schools, including
Cascia Hall. Sperry. Berryhill
and Verdigris.
The Kellyville administra-
tion is now stuck with the task
of replacing Culler and replace
him quickly.
“We are looking inside to
find a possible replacement
and weighing our options,’
said Bilby. “With Spring foot-
ball starting on Monday
(May 16), we need to act
quickly but precisely so
that these kids have a
coach and know who that
coach is going to be."
Several names have
popped up as possible suc-
cessor's for the lootball
coaching vacancy, including
offensive coordinator Kelly
Anderson who transferred to
Kellyville last year from
Collinsville. However. Bilbly
indicated that nothing has been
determined yet and he and
Superintendent Joe Pierce
hope to have a decision made
by Monday.
Culler will remain with the
school through the remainder
of the school year to full-fill
his duties as a history teacher.
The Herald will have an
update on the coaching situa-
tion as soon as a hire has been
made by the administration.
