MIAMI (AP) — Matt
Leinart is an easygoing
Californian. Jason White is a
tough guy from a small town
in Oklahoma.
Leinart's NFL-caliber left
arm and steady leadership
helped win him the Heisman
Irophy for CSC this season.
White battled hack from
two serious knee injuries to
win the Heisman last season
and become the most prolific-
passer to play for the Sooners.
The two will make history
together Tuesday night in the
Orange Bowl.
Leinart anil White will be-
come the first Heisman win-
ners to play each other in a
college game when Southern
California and Oklahoma meet
for the national title.
"We don't want to make it a
battle one-on-one because it s
a team game." Leinart said.

"Here again, it does it

The Sooners enter the BCS
championship game in tar bet-
ter shape mentally and physi-
cally than they did last year.
Oklahoma had lost 35-7 to
Kansas State in the Big 12 ti-
tle game before the Sugar
Bowl and White was aching.
I he main difference be-
tween this year and last for
White'.’
"I'm not spending as much
time m the training room." he
said.
It's a place White has be-
come far too familiar with dur-
ing his six years in Norman, as
major knee injuries ended his
2001 and 2002 seasons.
He made his way back and
finished Ins career with two
phenomenal seasons. Last
year, he threw for 3.84b yards
and 40 touchdowns. But in the
final two games, he didn't
throw a TD pass and was
picked off four times.
"1 think the biggest thing
that sticks in my head was the
e-mails that I got last year af-
ter the Sugar Bowl, just saying
that I need to give back the
Heisman Trophy." he said.
White, from Tuttle, Okla..
wasn't thrilled with all the at-
tention the Heisman comes
with, anyway.
Oklahoma freshman tail-
back Adrian Peterson has
helped take the focus away
from White on and off the
field this year, much to the
quarterback’s delight.
