The Sapulpa Touchdown Club is selling tickets for a chance at kicking a field goal for money at every
Sapulpa High School home football game The chances are sold before each home game at Collins
Stadium One chance tor $1 or 6 chance for $5 can be purchased Names will be drawn to decide the par-
ticipants Kids ages 2 through 14 or girls at any age will get a chance from the 3-yard line, and men ages
15 and older, get to try from the 10-yard line Winners will receive $100 and a T-shirt All participants will
get a shirt whether they make the goal or not The event is sponsored by All-season Sporting Goods.

Cross Country Invitational will

Williams has invited a lot ot
great competition to the event.
“We have invited all of the
Uval schools and many of the
5A schools across the state to
the Sapulpa Invitational."
Williams said
"Our biggest competition for
the varsity hoys team will he

The Chieftains also have two

“Unfortunately, our top
ranked athlete. Preston Baker,

mer. However, we still have a
strong hoy's cross country
team." W illiams said.
Sapulpa's No. I runner is
junior John Sutrick He has
competed on the varsity squad
for three years and is currently
ranked No 9 in the stale.

"Matt will surprise a lot of
other teams when he runs his
first varsity meet at the Sapulpa
Invitational." Williams said
Junior Justin Kren/ is also in
his third year for the cross coun-
try team
"An exciting aspect of our
team will he the order in which
our next four runners finish.
Juniors Dane Adair. Derek
(iowdy and Jeremiah Chai and
senior Matt Burleson, all are
very tough and consistent ath-
letes." she said
"We also have some talented
runners on the junior varsity
team who are working their way
toward varsity and will provide
important depth." Williams said
Larry Vandiver will coach
the girl's team and should pro-
vide some excitement of the
team's own.
“With several newcomers,
they have come together well
and will he tough this year
Junior Andrea Henderson has
led the team for the past two
years and she has two state ap-
pearances Andrea has put in a
good summer base and should
have a great season." Williams
said

runner to our roster since the

from Germany and has run very
well in practice She will have
to race in (he junior varsity divi
sion at the Sapulpa Invitational,
hut has the talent to move up to
varsity"

Kiefer will face Mounds in season opener
Glenpool will open the season against Okmulgee Friday night at home

The Kiefer Trojans will start
the 2002-03 football season
away from home against the
Mounds Golden Eagles Friday
night.
Kiefer head football coach
Mike McCormick had a disap-
pointing season in 2000 with a
record of 1-9. hut turned things
around w ith a winning record in
2(H) I with six wins and four
losses.
Kieler was three points away
from the play-offs last year and
making the play-offs is one of
the team's main goals.
"We were three points shy of
making the play-offs last year,
and our goal is to make the
play-offs this year," McCormick
said.
Kiefer lost seven starters to
graduation last year and will re-
turn six on defense and five on
offense.
Kellyville begins
football season
against Chandler

The Kellyville Ponies will
face the Chandler Lions at home
at 7:30 p.m Friday.
In 2(XX) the ponies went 0-10
in district 2A-6 and in 2(H)I they
had a record of 4-5.
Marvel has eight starters re-
turning and they now have a
year of the new system under
their hells.
Quarterback Nate Nance will
be the signal caller for the
Ponies, and tailback Jeremy
Harwood will be the main ball
carrier
Nance was 68-of-122 passing
with four touchdowns and car-
ried the hall 69 times for 923
yards before being injured in the
sixth game of the season..
Harwood rushed for 13
touchdowns last year and con-
verted six two-point conver-
sions.
The Kellyville Ponies will
have an advantage this year in
2A. They have 15 experienced
seniors ready to take the field on
Friday night.
Former Sapulpa quarterback
Johnny Bilby is Marvel's offen-
sive coordinator. Bilby graduat-
ed from Sapulpa in 1993 and
saw some success at quarterback
for the Chieftains.

Quarterback Jerimiah
Medford will be the main signal
caller for the Trojans, but run-
ning back Lee Barber is expect-
ed to carry the load for Kiefer.

center of the field on defense
and shut down the opposing
running game
The Mounds Golden Eagles
didn't enjoy the same success
on the field as Kiefer did last
year, but head coach John
Truesdell looks to build on last
year's record and thinks the
leant can be belter this year.
The Golden Eagles were 2-7
last year with their w ins coming
against Liberty-Mounds and
Wellslon.
Senior running back Adam
Roberts will be in the back field
for Mounds again this year.
Roberts had 694 yards on the
ground last year.
Quarterback Josh Foster will
be back after throwing for 272
yards in the air
Mounds graduated eight
starters last year, hut Truesdell
isn't bothered by that
“I think we have a good op-
portunity because of the kids
that are coming back, a lot o'
them had significant playing
time last year." he said
Kiefer and Mounds is one the
areas most heated rivalries, and
the players will settle it on the
field Fndav night in Mounds at
7:30.

The Glenpool Warriors will
start the 2002-03 against the
Okmulgee Bulldogs at home at
7:30 Friday night
The Bulldogs had a record last
year of 3-6. and they were 3-4 m
district 4A-4.
Glenpool is coming off a 7-3
regular season. They started the
season off with three straight
losses and then won their final
seven games going undefeated in
district 4A-2.
The Warriors then lost a heart
breaker to Bishop McGuinness
40-28 in the first round of the
play-offs.
The Warriors head coach is
pleased with Glenpool \ success
last year but wants to increase the
team s passing game
Glenpool threw for about
1,2(X) yards last year and rushed
for 3.8(X) yards
Even though Glenpool had the
highest rated offense by the end
of last year. Edwards wants to see
more.
"We are going to throw more
this year we need to open things
up more and take some of the
heat off Courtney (Tenmal)." he
said.
Tailback Courtney Tenmal
will carry the load again for the
Warriors this year He was
Glenpool's most explosive player
last year and has blazing speed
out of the backfield
Chris Neal will start at quar
terhack. and Chris Offer w ill start
at fullback for the Warriors
Glenpool punished the oppo-
sition last year. The Warriors had
four games in which they beat
their opponents by 39 points and
scored 50 points tw ice last year.
