ASK DICK KLEINER
Q. Help! Help! While watching
the credits to the movie “Twenty
Bucks,” starring Brendan Fraser,
I noticed it gave special thanks to
J.D. Salinger. Is this THE J.D.
Salinger of “Catcher in the Rye”?
Please tell me what relationship he
had to the movie. — J.C.. Lake
Forest, Calif.
A The screenwriters, Leslie and
Endre Bohem, were, I’m told, in
spired by a Salinger short story They
felt an obligation to give him a nod
in the credits
Q. A family member and I have a
friendly bet on where Cary Grant
was born. I believe he was born in
England. The family member
thinks he was born in Brooklyn,
N.Y. Who wins the bet? — N.K.G.,
Stuart. Fla.
A You do Grant was born in the
U.K., Bristol, to be precise
Q. Why was “One West Waikiki”
with Cheryl Ladd removed from the
air? This program was terrific and
our family would like to see it back.
— P.P., Little Rock, Ark.
A There weren't enough people
who thought it was a terrific show
The ratings were low, and the net-
work decided to try something else
