FREEDOM
THROUGH
CHRIST
Sidney Ellis, Minister
Our great nation celebrated the 200th an-
niversary of its independence and birth as a nation on
July 4,1976. It is a great privilege to be a citizen of a
great nation that is characterized by freedom. I fear
that many of us take our freedom for granted. We must
guard our liberty and be grateful to God for it.
Jesus Christ came into a world lost in sin and in
bondage to Satan. He came to deliver us or save us
from the curse of sin. He died for our sins in order to
make us the free children of God (I Cor. 15: 3-4, Isa.
53:4-5). Our only hope of freedom and salvation is at
the cross and in the shed blood of Jesus (Rev 1-5-
Eph. 1:7).
We receive the benefits of salvation through the
shed blood of Oirist by obedience to the gospel. When
we obey "from the heart that form of doctrine” we are
then “made free from sin.” (Rom. 6:17-16). Paul ex-
plains how the penitent believer obeys that form of
doctrine in Romans 6:3-4 where he said, "Know ye not,
that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into his death: that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father,
even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
Have you been immersed (buried) in baptism
for the remission of your sins? (Col. 2:12; Acts 2:38).
Why not obey Christ today in scriptural baptism and be
made free from the guilt of sin?
