unemployment rate increased to 5.9
percent in December — the find rise in
five montha — but It remained
significantly below a year ago. the
labor Department reported today

1977, and the 7 4 percent when
President Carter took office in January
1977
Total employment, which gained half
a million a month ago, continued to rise
from to 7 million to to I million to
December
The unemployment rate for adult
men rooe from II percent to 11 per-
cent. remained at 51 percent for adult
women; and increased for teen-agers
from 10.2 percent to 11.5 percent
The la tret figures reflected the an-
nual adjustment by the Bureau of
labor Stabs tics for seasonal factors,
resulting in slight variations for
statistics on five of the tost 12 months
Under the revised rates, the tost
increase to unemployment occurred to
July when the rate went to June's 5.0
percent to 0.1 percent

statement, noted the current figures
were about 25 percent below the
unemployment rate when President
Carter was elected

letter to Kiefer officials lifting that
town's "boil order" which had been
imposed an its municipal water supply

water users to boil water a minimum of
15 minutes before using It was imposed
by the Oklahoma State Department of
Health because of the presence of
