On New Cars Are
Primed For Raise
WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 (U.R7—'The
government today prepared to
grant general price increases of;
$80 to $250 on all new automobiles. I
Official sources said Price Con-
troller Michael V. DiSalle has
agreed to raise new car ceilings by
that much, at the retail level, to
compensate the auto industry In
part for cost Increases incurred
since the start of the Korean War.
DtSall' 's aides hoped to have the
new auto regulation ready for his
signatun before his take-off late
this afn-moon on a speaking trip
to Jacksonville, Fla., and Dallas,
Tex.
M they miss that deadline, it will
be issued on his return next Mon-
day. It becomes effective on Is-
suance
The forthcoming order was de-
scribed as a "formula" regulation
that will raise factory prices about
7 to 8 per cent over their present
levels—from $64 to $200 per car
depending on the make and model,
with the smallest Increases on the
lowest-priced cars.
Because of a provision in the
i new controls law guaranteeing re-
tailers their pre-Korea markups,
automobile dealers will be allowed
to pass on to their customers the
full factory increase pins 25 per
cent—or $80 to $250 per car.

the set only when beer commercials
come on.
