2nd INTERMEDIATE ROOM
School opened In this room with lots
of "pep" on the part of most the pupils.
Some, however, have not as yet a-
wakened to the fact that it takes
grit and perseverance to get that
"passing" grade. We opened with an
enrollment of 24 Today we have 2!)
pupils. Ten of these are from the
country. Those entering late were
Hursel Wilkinson, Lola Oberlender,
Eugene and Hollis Crai,} and Ephram
lfa.isey. Some of these are driving
nine long miles to take advantage of
our graded system, That's what it
takes to m ike men so "here's to e'ni "
Those making what we call "good'
grades, so far, are: Emil Krivohlavek,
Juanita Potter, Charlie Leslie, George
Fnrgcson. Stanley Letcher, and Lola
Oberlender. In the iisc of 2nd best,
we would put the names of lleulah
Warblngton, Juanita Wolfe, George
Gibson, Ada Ellis, Cleo ISruce, Elsie
Grpther, Lauretta Chavellier, llalla
Coe, Hursel Wilkinson, and Myrtle
Perrin. The rest of the pupMs are do
"ing fair woik. With a little eli
couragement Doth at home and at
school we hope soon to be able to
place their name In the "head" list.
We have had two spelling matche s,
two ciphering matches, nd a debate
within the month W* found that
our surest and so far, best speller is
lienlah Warbingfon. Among those
fast in figures are Liura Johruon,
George Kurgenson, Stanley Letcher,
Juanita Wolfe, lieuiah Warbington,
Lola Oberlender, Eda and Ada Ellis
Hursel Wilkinson, Juanita Potter, and
Charlie Leslie. The debate was won
by Stanley Letcher, the boy with the
"pep," and Myrtle Perrin. We are
going to go some this school year and
would be glad to have all patrons,
parents, and others who are interested
fall in line and go too.
Eugene Wolee,
Teacher.

ELOQUENCE.
I listen to the-gifted speaker, the
patriotic office seeker, who lifts his
voice, that's strong and hearty, and
neatlv skins the other party. He
shows how t^ryants grind and goad me,
and get my goat and overload me, and
rob me by unjust taxation, until I'm
hot with indignation. And wheu 1
leave that redhot meeting, 1 say, ,'Such
facta are surely heatiug; unless that
fellow is elected, the country's doom
may be expected." Next night I hear
another spieler address ttie voter and
the heeler. He is the gifted speaker's
foreman, and with the front of ancient
Roman, that gifted speaker he de-
nounces, and with the lash of virtue
t,rouuce8. He shows me how the gift-
ed sptakeris but a chronic office seek-
er, the agent of a bunch of tyrants
who charge the poor unholy hii?h rents,
who, having got me, wont release me,
but certainly will grind and lUece me
