Adjutant-General Niles has issued
an order for the entire Oklahoma
. National guard to assemble in Guth
rie September 18 and remain in camp
until September 22. They will leave
by special train for the Fort Riley
maneuvers on the latter date. Col-
onel Roy V. Hoffman will be in charge
, of the troops. The four days at
Guthrie will be spent in preliminary
instructions.

BolLon killed a Nan.
J. D. Bolton, formerly of Hobart
0 da. and chief clerk of the lower
B'juse of the 7th Legislative Assem^
bly of Oklahoma, shot and killed a
wealthy sheep man by the name of
Carl Gillcy t Clayton, New Mexico,
last Monday, while in a rage over
something not yet explained. He
says he had n ;tting against the man
he killed, was not personally acquain
ted with him, yet he shot right at
him and killed him instantly. He was
taken to Trinidad to escape a mob
who would have hung him had not
the officers acted promptly and got
him out of the community. Bolton
has always bore,a fairly good repu-
tation in Oklahoma.

Last week when Governor Frantz
stepped trom the train at the D. F. &
G depot he discovered C. O. D. stand-
ing on the plattorm He approaihed
Cod smiling and greeted him in his
usual whole soul way. After the
usual few words the governor inquir-
ed:—" What are you doing n w:"

A sad frown came over the gover-
nor's u^ual good nature and without
another word he dropped Cod's hand,
turned and walked away, using that
long step tread the governor always
uses when be wants to get far away
trom the spot where he h; d betn
standing.

The races were well attended this
afternoon ami the races were real
good and yery exciting Pools sold
quite lively last night and today.

NOTICE.
The Curfew Ordinance, which re-
quires that auy minor under the age
ol seventeen years shall not be found
n public places in the city of Enid
atter nine o'clock p. m. unless on
some authorized erand or accompan-
ied by parents, will be strictly en-
forced hereafter and all persons will
be governed thereby. This Ordinance
provides for a penalty of from $1 to
Asphalt Trouble in Shawnee.
Shawnee City authorities are hav-
ing trouble over the discovery that
the concrete base for the asphalt
street paying was only 4 inches deep
when the specifications called for
The light concrete work was dis-
covered in digging a street ditch and
it has been tested elsewhere. The
work bad been accepted by tfie city
engineer, but the warrants had not
been issued, hence, they will cut out
a big slice of the contractors pay.
FUNERAL OF MRS. TOMPKINS.
The funeral of Mrs. Mary E. Tomp-
kins, will be held at the Baptist
church in Enid tomorrow morning at
10 o'clock.
The services will be conducted by
Rev. C. C. Goltry pastor of the Free
Methodist church, assisted by Rev.
Munger of the Baptist church.
