uor organization that the
States has ever known.
Creekmore’s organization has
placed him in a position of impor-
tance and influence, during the past
nine or ten years. It is said that on
one occasion a United States senator,
representing an eastern state, went
to Washington to secure clemency
for him and was successful. His
position has also brought to him
many men who desired to be under
his protection, and In this connec-
tion an interesting story is told.
Witness at Wagoner.
There was a district oourt Inves-
tigation in prorress at Wagoner,
wherin several prohibition enforce-
ment officers were charged with ac-
cepting bribes from the liquor inter-
e-M. In the Wagoner community,
at' that time, was an independent
iea.ler in liquors or one that was not
considered friendly to the Joplin
man. The two had not been on good j

eved by the authorities that by get-
ting both men as witness they would
be able to learn about the alleged
bribery charges It was charged
that some checks had pasam! between
the independent dealer and the Jop-
lin man. money which it waa believ-
ed entered Into the bribery matter.
