Mr. Be'oua, s distinguished hunter

telling something of his metlwods when

never thought of taking any sort of
conveyance, even to the oxtont oi s

night, aud would not be encumbered
by a tent For woeks together, year
aftor year, he slept on the ground,
covered only by something in the
shape of a blanket Asked if there
wore any reptiles to disturb repoii
under such ciroumstanres, Mr. Selotis
replied that although venomous
snakes were to be found, bites from
them were vory rare, ai^d in all his
experience he had never known any
body, either native or European,
killed by a snake bite in Maahona
land. "In fact" he said, "you run
more riak of being killed by an omnl
bun in Londoji streets than we do by
venomous snakes In African forests."

Being Well licrn.
The problem of being well born ha?
srpealed to philosophers and etatca
men in all times. Tho Jews guarded
tho birthright in ways that are large

strong warriors, but failed to develop
