-Why Wat It. Anyway?"
A gentleman visited the class
cl the commercial department :n
the Helena High School one dav
last week, and thia is what he
foond. One protessor. £ve F.em-
ington typewriters, and two stu-
dents. The professor bore every
indication of being a good teacn-
er, the typewriters were trsn
new and were good machines, and
the two students were very stu-
dious. But this caused the gen-
tleman to wonder why the roar*,
ot trustees turned Mrs. Mc-
Greevy’s recommendations down
with such force and go right
ahead over her protest and employ
so many teachers. .hesa.at.es
for these teachers w:!! cost the
county about ten thousand d..-
lars per year in audition to t-e
ether costs, and it '.oca ’-ke

Now. let’s exam.ne this mem-
bers record more carefully. Since
Mrs MeGreevy has been s mem-
! ber of the board we £cd of the 37
question* that have been before
the board, on which s roll call
rote was taken, she has voted
-no” five times; “yes** fourteen
times, and passed eighteen times,
thereby refusing, as you see, to
take s definite stand in any way
on half of the Important ques-
tions that came before the old
board during her administration,
and “whv was it anywav?“
New, let us see what questions
she voted “no’ on.
First: She voted “no*’ on
changing the vitrified brick in the
basement to stone veneer, which
everyone, who has examined the
building, admit* was a change
for the best.
Second: She voted “no” on
changing the heating p.an, by
which change the county will, in
a short time, save more toan the
cost of the chsnge in fuel, to say

Why was it anyway? We don’t
blame tbe teachers and we don t
blame the students, but what was
wrong with that board, anyway
—Alva Courier.
The Alva Courier of November
24th, printed a letter of recom-
mendation by County superinten-
dent MeGreevy to the board of
trustees of the Woods County
High School and then goes into
hysterics because, as the editor
says, her suggestions were turn-
ed down over her protest, as you
will see by the above clipping.
Now, Jack has broke loose sev-
eral times cn matters relative to
the County High School and has
invariably made representations
that would have a tendency to
mislead the peop.e and prejud.ee
them against their County High
School and '.hr old board of trus-
tees, especially the democratic
members.
We have deferred answering
his misleading articles until new.
Wnen he attempts to exalt seme
cf the members at the ccst of
others and to the detriment of the
school, i: seems to us it is time
tc point cut tc Jack tbe fact that
truth still has a place in the
ent jvstem cn the hea.th 01 the
students.
Third: She voted “no” on
Mr. Larkina' salary after voting
tc hire him.
Fourth: She Toted “no” cn
Idrs. Christian’s salary after vot-
ing to hire her.
Fifth: She voted‘“no" on buy-
ing a Chickering piano and a
Bauoaater piano, but voted “yes'
cn having two Kimna.l p:an.s.
These are the only questions she
went on record as opposing, all
ether cuesticus receiving her
supper, definitely by voting
‘•yes”, or indefinitely by passing
when her name was called, in
fact she has taken a pcs: :ve
stand agiinst the expenditure ci
leas than $6,000 of the extra
3i-,ooo provided to be expended,
and “whv was It anyway?”
Now, among the matters of im- ’
porunce that she has supported,
definitely, are the change iu the
heat regulation and putting in
the Humidostat at an extra cost
of $2140, the buv.ng of two
piancs at $900, corner stone $100
song books S35, library $iocc, cn
this last she has no recorded vote
but pledged her support in many
ways, furniture $5500 which was

board, making a tota. of near.y

endorsed. Now, we are not crit-
