He was Democratic State Chairman from 1906 to 1910. He conducted the
campaign for the adoption of the Constitution and for the election of the first
state and county officials.
He conducted the Presidential campaign In 1908 which gave Oklahoma's
vote to Bryan.
He Is now State Senator from the Nineteenth Senatorial District com-
posed of the counties of Garvin McClain and Cleveland. His record in the
politics of Oklahoma and as State Senator stamps him as a public servant
who favors what he believes to be right Independent of influences.
He Is recognized as an able brave and tireless worker in the Interests of
the people.
He Introduced and secured the passage of bills through the Senate pro-
viding that cases In ths Supreme Court should not be reversed on technicali-
ties; reforming the divorce laws of the State so that people can not secure
ilvorces without a Just cause; prohibiting-race track gambling; providing
that the Attorney General should be the law officer of the State and prohibit-
ing the employment of outside attorneys.
He is a PROGRESSIVE and REFORM DEMOCRAT.
He voted against and fought every bill that provided for the Increase of
ialaries or for the creation of additional offices.
He believes in and worked for a thorough-going primary law accom-
ianid by a thorough-going corrupt practice act. He is in favor of the
nltlatlve referendum and recall.
He believes in good roads and good schools.
He believes too much money is being spent by the government and Is in
jvor of doing away with useless offices and abolishing all flunkyism.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon social frater-
nity gave an informal spring dance at
the Davis Hall Friday night. Among
the guests were Misses Dean Hanford
Sharp and Hawley of Oklahoma City;
Post of Guthrie Keeman of Tahlequah
and Brown of Purcell. Messrs. Foster
Moore Knight Buchanan and White-
man of Oklahoma City Dr. and Mrs.
Edwin De Barr Prof and Mrs. Dwight
and Dean and Mrs. Monnet of the Uni-
versity faculty.
.The alumni of the University are
planning a monster banquet to be held
in Norman on Commencement day fol-
lowing the granting of degrees to the
seniors of the institution. It is pro-
posed to make the occasion one of
unusual . interest and to have "Old
Grads" from all parts of Oklahoma
and adjoining states back to take part.
At the present time thcr eare over
500 alumni and those to be added this
year will swell the number to some-
thing like 650.
The "Humanist Club" a student-
faculty organization for the study of
English Literature held its last meet-
ing of the year Thursday evening May
10. Prof. Hadsell of the English De-
partment addressed the members on
"Some Eighteenth Century Letter-
Writers." The club during the' year
has been chiefly engaged in the study
of the modern drama.
The oratorical association compris-
ing .ill inter-collegiate debaters for-
mer or present members of the ora-
torical council- and members of the
various literary ane debating clubs
elected officers for next year last
Tuesday. Elton B. Hunt of Alex a
member of the debating team which
defeated Colorado at Boulder in April
was named president over William J.
Armstrong of Boswell a member of the
team which bested Kansas. The con-
test was a warm one and a real poli-
tical battle preceded the balloting.
Claude Rosenstein as chosen vice-
president and Chas. Smith secretary-
treasurer. The Sooner track team left Thurs-
day for Kingfisher in charge of coach
Wantland to atted the annual inter-
collegiate track and field meet. The
team is in the pink of condition and
sanguine of winning the big athletic
event. The man who made the trip are

Samuel Clements Harry Dawson and
Mr. 'and Mrs. S. M. McCalib and two

Joe Adair called on Miss Martha
Dean Sunday.
Rev. Mathus delivered a very inter-
esting sermon to a large and appreci-
ative audience at the school house Sun-
day afternoon. Rev. Mathus is a very
able minister preaching heart-felt re-
ligion. Every one should attend his
meetings and help him accomplish the
great work which he is battling so
diligently for.
Joe Millhollin has moved from Cabin
Creek to the hill near his father L. M.
Millhollin. His household goods were
damaged considerably during the high
water therefore he vacated for higher
ground.
Mr. Ray is batching and cultivating
the Joe Harris place which is located
six miles southeast of town.
Wayside Sunday school is progress-
ing nicely unde rthe able management
of Mrs. Adair there Is a good crowd
and an animated lesson each Sabbath.
There will be preaching at Wayside
next Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock by
J. A. Sanders he is . a very talented
man of God able to express his
thoughts in simple English so the un-
educated can understand his meaning.
Everybody come and bring a friend.
Samuel Clements took dinner with
Miss Sara Rae Sunday.
Ludie Montgomery was out buggy
riding with Zeke Miller Sunday after-
noon. Miss Ludie and Jewel Montgomery
spent Saturday night and Sunday with
Mrs. John Marker near Prairie Chap-
pel. There is to be a box supper and en-
tertainment at Sequoyah school house
Saturday evening. The proceeds are
to buy a library. They have prepared
a splendid program and you are as-
sured a good time so don't stay at
home.
The farmers of this community met
and organized an Anti-Horse Thief As-
sociation Tuesday afternoon.
Our mail lists are an accurate ba-
rometer and show that our subscrip-
tion lists are growing by leaps and
bounds indicating that the paper is
satisfied with the people. The
Chieftain is the oldest and best news-
paper in northeastern Oklahoma. We
are better equipped than ever to print
a newspaper. We are making an offer
that ought to get every family in Craig
county. 50 cents paid now will get
the paper until January 1st 1913. We
want 3100 subscribers in Craig county
