ler shortly after noon yesterday.
The murderer then . turned his
weapon on himself and fired a bullet
Into his head from the result of which
lie died at i:1'K He never spoke after
the shot nnd w as not able to make a
statement as he evidently desired to
do shortly before death churned him.
The double tragedy is the result of
an elopement In which Fowler his
wife ami James lliwsell a trump
whom Fowler had befriended wore
the principal actors. Fowlor was a
ranchman in Oltlnhoma residing near
Still well Some time ago a tramp ap-
peared at his home and asked for shel-
ter. Fowler took him und cared for
him a day or two and finally hired
him to work on IiIb ranch.
Fowler wns nway from homo a
great portion of his time. While ho
was absent the trump ingratiated him-
solf so .successfully in the niTcutious
of Fowler's wife that one day u short
tlmo ago Fowler returned home and
found his house empty. His wife
with hor two little sons nnd llussoll

on their trail aud finally located
Russell ut Kansas City with his wife.
Russell had been arrested at Kansas
City and locked t.p for two weeks on
a charge of vagrancy.
Fowler took his wlfo and children
nnu went to Atchison where ho re-
mained for somo time. One duy on
returning home ho found his wife had
again fled with Russell. He traced
them to this city. He arrived horo
yesterday morning accompanied by
his two littlo boys nnd set out to look
for them. The police nsslstod him in
the search and no located his wlfo at
tho boarding Iioutj of Mrs. James
McQueen at 3630 South Sixth street.
He went to the hoiiko nnd nsked his
wlfo to come outside whore thoir lit-
tle boys were pluylug on tho side-
walk. Mrs. Fowler complied nnd the
him band und wife at once entorodinto
nn euniost discussion in a low tone.
While no one heard tho conversa-
tion that na-sed hotwoen them It is
presumed that Mrs Fowlor said some-
thing to arouse the Jealousy of her
husband causing him to becomo
ursed with anger. Not more than

wilifissos observed that Mrs. Fowler
wns smiling as she talked to her hus
band immediately niter this was

Fowler was taken to the police sta-
tion where he died at 3:30 never be-
ing able to utter a word. The littlo

and will be sent to Kellertoc la.
